Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Sunday was a glorious day on the slopes that finished off with a lovely sunset. We now turn our attention from sun to snow. Moderate snowfall Sunday night tapers off but sticks around Monday daytime and Tuesday morning. Dry weather returns on Tuesday, Wednesday, and potentially Thursday. After that, uncertainty increases and the ability to predict the weather decreases. So, let’s look at Sunday into Monday…
A weather system pushes in from the south Sunday night. Generally speaking, 850mb (~5000′) temps will be around -2C. That said, there will be pockets of air as warm as +4C in the area, so that opens the door for mixed precip at times despite the models calling for a snow level of 2000-2500′ or so. We’re expecting about 0.5 to 0.6” water equivalent tonight, and we’re only getting that much thanks to easterly orographic assistance. Given the uncertain temp profile, let’s call that 3-5” new snow. Wind will be ESE 30 Sunday evening and will turn to S 15-30 at elevation with E 20 down lower overnight.
Light snowfall sticks around all day Monday. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ overnight. About 0.2” WE is forecast during the day for 2” new snow. Another 0.2” WE falls overnight for a couple inches more. The snow will be neither particularly dense nor particularly fluffy. Just plain average. Wind: S 15-20 early, SW 15-20 in the afternoon, and W 15 overnight.
Light snow Tuesday morning gives way to sunshine in the afternoon and (maybe) a few flurries overnight. The snow level will be 3000′ in the morning, 2500′ in the afternoon, and down to 1500′ or so overnight. About 0.1” WE is forecast during the day. That’s just one lonely inch of snow. Wind: W 15 in the morning turns to NW 10-15 in the afternoon and W 10-15 overnight. Clear sky Wednesday morning gives way to high clouds. As of this morning, there’s a fair bit of uncertainty about the Thursday-Friday weather. Dry? Snowy? Wet? Let’s not take a stab at it – there’s just too much uncertainty. Have a great Monday on the mountain!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! There’s a wee chance at westerlies on Tuesday, but not much happens around that. For Monday, we start with 35-40 near Iwash and 20-25 near Stevenson. If you want it, you’ll really need to rush. The wind will drop fast and drop hard. By late morning, it’ll be down to 15-20 at both launches, and in the afternoon, it’ll be 10-15. River flow Sunday was 90-137kcfs, river temp is 38.3F, and high temp forecast is 43F with rain all day. Tuesday starts calm. Westerlies pick up to 13-16ish – there’s quite a bit of uncertainty in the models – from Stevenson to Avery. High temp: 45F under partly to mostly cloudy sky near Hood River and more sunshine out east. Wednesday brings westerlies at 10mph or less. High temp: 44F and partly cloudy.
