Monday. POWDER DAY!!!

DSC_9480
Know what I said yesterday about the models maybe overestimating snowfall with this weather system? Well, I was wrong. They actually underestimated snowfall by a little bit. Whatever. You were going up anyway, right, whether we had 8” of new or 12” of new or 18” of new! Expect more snow today with the snow level at 1500-2000′. We’ll see .4-.5” water value (WV) between this morning and 5pm, for 4-6” of fluffy new snow. We’ll see another .6-.8” WV tonight, for 7-9” of light, dry, fluffy new snow. Wind today will be W 35-40 all day. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We have some light to moderate west wind on this Monday morning, depending on where you look. As a weather system moves through late this morning and high pressure builds off the coast, we’ll see increasing west wind. Before you get all excited, know that the river temp is 43 degrees. Anyway, you can expect gusty 28-32 from Viento to Mosier after noon with steadier 28-32 from Rowena eastward to Threemile. Tuesday starts off with W 10-13 or less through the whole Gorge and picks up to W 15-18 in the afternoon pretty much everywhere. Wednesday looks light and variable. As of right now, we’re expecting increasing easterlies during the day Thursday will E 40-50 on Friday.

Random Morning Thoughts

We all lead very busy lives, don’t we? For example, I have a 1:30 in Portland today and school at 4pm tonight, and I’m working right now writing this report and the Meadows report. I’m tempted to just chill out this morning and do nothing while I watch for rainbows, but there’s a ton of fresh powder.

A friend of mine and I were talking about this last week. He was kicking himself for not making the effort to spend a couple hours on the slopes before his workday. We both came to the conclusion that we never regret doing some fun outdoor activity, even if the weather is crappy. What we regret is not jumping on the opportunity to spend some time in nature, moving our bodies.

That’s just one small part of a bigger story. Sure, we have regrets sometimes about things we do, but more often than not, the regrets seem to come from the things we didn’t do. So, if you’re debating about doing or not doing something, take a moment to see what that debate’s really about. Ask yourself if you’ll regret not doing the thing down the road. If the answer is yes, then go for it. Life’s short and uncertain. Make the most of it. Have an awesome (powder) day!

Nope, definitely not mountain biking today. Nor are we road biking, because it’s going to be showery this morning and nuking windy this afternoon. If you’re hoping for mountain biking, let it be known that the trails shall dry out late this week.
