Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s still snowing on Mt. Hood this morning. In a delightful twist, reality beat the forecast by 5” or so; 24 hour snowfall total was around 18”. We’ll see continued light snow Monday, Sunshine Tuesday, and a return to snow Wednesday and Thursday. Disagreement in the long-range forecast makes next weekend impossible to predict at this time.

For Monday, the mountain will start with light snow and then turn partly cloudy. Snow level 3000′ early falling to 1000′ in the afternoon and 0′ overnight. Daytime precip will be 0.1” water value (WV), for an additional inch of snow. Same overnight – 0.1” WV for another inch of new. Wind will be WSW 20 early, light and variable in the afternoon, and N 15 overnight. Tuesday looks partly cloudy early and clear in the afternoon. Free air freezing level (FAF): 0′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon and overnight. Wind: N 15 becoming NW 15 and WNW 20 after midnight.

Next round of snow is Wednesday. Snow level 1500′ early, as low as 0′ midday, and 1000′ overnight. Snow starts midday, with 0.3” WV falling by 4pm. That’ll be 3-4” of powder. Another 0.3” WV falls overnight, for another 3-4” of powder. Wind will be WNW 20 early, W 40 in the afternoon, and NW 25 overnight. That wind speed and direction could add 50% to the snowfall total.

Light snowfall continues on Thursday, for a couple more inches of powder. Looking long-range, the GFS keeps the PNW dry for the weekend. The Euro breaks down the ridge and brings in some light precip with a snow level of 5500-6000′. So, no agreement there. Recommendation: just get out and enjoy all the fresh snow today!

Wednesday starts with E 10-15, goes calm midday, and turns around to W 10-13 in the evening. River flow on Monday is 76,800cfs and temp is 44 degrees.

Road and Mountain Biking

Stay off the trails – it’s too muddy. Even if you have a fat bike. You’re damaging delicate dirt and undoing the hard work of many, many volunteers. Syncline is freeze-thaw, and therefore extremely delicate, above the fence. Please don’t ride it or you’ll do major trail damage. The Power Station has a really wonderful virtual bike setup. I know it’s not the same, but it’s better than damaging the dirt.

Upcoming Events
