Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Models are holding hard to the overall pattern we talked about last night: a few days of light snow or mixed precip with temps (mostly) just cool enough for snow at 5000′. That’s followed by three to four days of warmer, dry weather. After that: we start next week by plunging back into cold, wet weather, but there’s still a fair bit of uncertainty around how cold and how wet. Cold enough for snow, almost certainly.

For Sunday night, expect partly cloudy sky with a return to light snowfall around midnight. The snow level will be around 4000′ overnight. About 0.1” WE falls, for a half inch to an inch of dense new snow. Wind: S 15-30 through Monday morning. The snow level Monday morning will be 500′ near Mt. Hood with 5000′ temps in the upper 20’s to low 30’s. The snow level rises to 6000′ in the evening before falling back to 4500′ after midnight. Just a trace of snow-then-snain is in the cards for the day. That’s followed by 0.1” WE snain-then-snow overnight for half an inch or so of new. Wind: S 10-20 early rises to SSW 15-30 in the evening and turns to SW 15-30 overnight.

Tuesday brings light snowfall. The snow level will be 4500′ during the day and will fall to 4000′ after midnight. A trace of snow is forecast during the day. Overnight. About 0.1” WE falls as about an inch of new. Wind: SW 15-20 for the 24 hour period, strongest in the afternoon. Light snowfall on Thursday (a couple inches, snow level 3500′) gives way to dry weather on Thursday. After that: three days of warm, probably sunny weather. Early next week, models call for a strong Alaskan cold front followed by continued NW flow. If we can keep the moisture coming along with that (and models like that plan), the mountains will pick up a bunch more snow. Gotta like that! See ya on the slopes!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi friends. Easterlies will be big enough on Monday for you to get out there (some of you, anyway),. And they’ll fade away to “not enough” for Tuesday through Thursday. After that, we’re watching for a big cold front to swing through and kick off (maybe) a day of westerlies early next week. For Monday, expect the day to start with 50ish at Iwash (Rooster) and 30ish at Stevenson. The wind drops to 20-25 at Stevenson, rebounds a bit late morning, and drops again to 20-25. Iwash drops to 40 midday and then 35-40 in the afternoon. River flow Sunday was 95-123kcfs, river temp is 40.82F, and high temp forecast is 42F with intermittent drizzle. Tuesday starts with E 15 at Iwash and Stevenson and drops to 10mph or so. High temp: low-mid 40’s with intermittent drizzle. Wednesday: E 20-25 at Stevenson early and 10-15 in the afternoon. Iwash: 15 in the morning and 10ish in the afternoon. High temp: mid 40’s with drizzle.

Jones, Sauvie’s, Coast Forecast – On vacation ‘til summer unless otherwise noted

Very basic Hood River weather forecast. Don’t plan your life around this. You really should read TATAS

And intermittently precipy, mostly cloudy day is forecast on Monday. It may be snow early, but will switch to rain. Temps tart in the low-mid 30’s and rise to the low 40’s. Easterlies. 45% chance of rainbows. Tuesday will be drizzly. Temps start in the low-mid 30’s and rise to the mid 40’s. I guess we could see snow or snain early. Easterlies. 16% chance of rainbows. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with drizzle prior to sunrise and then intermittent drizzle all day. Temps start in the mid 30’s and rise to the upper 40’s. Easterlies. 87% chance of rainbows. Cycling

Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
