Gorge Wind Forecast
The weather pattern is making a shift towards fall, and with it comes less consistency with the westerlies. Monday, however, starts off with some wind. At dawn, gradients were .08 and .04 with westerlies generally in the 10-13 range with 16-19 at Swell. The wind steadies out at 14-17 from Stevenson to Hood River and holds through the evening. Mosier will be in the 11-14 range, perhaps a touch stronger, and areas east of there will fade into the “light” zone. River flow is 90,800cfs, river temp is 69F, and high temp for Hood River is 73F.
High pressure builds inland on Tuesday and shuts down the westerlies. Mostly. Easterlies pick up to 15-20 between Stevenson and Viento midday, just for a couple hours. Rooster will be in the 10-15 range. By afternoon, the wind dips to E 10 in the western Gorge and picks up to E 5-10 eastward to Arlington. High temp: 80F.
An approaching front on Wednesday nudges the wind upwards, but the strength will be accompanied by gustiness. Early westerlies will be 13-16 from Viento to Hood River with 10-13 eastward to The Dalles. Midday: 21-24 Mosier to Avery with 12-15 in the western Gorge and light wind east of Avery. In the evening, the wind picks up go gusty 22-26 and fills in from Mosier to Rufus with 12-15 to the east and west. High temp: 78F under partial high overcast sky.
Looking deeper into the week, we see 24-27 for Thursday, 22-25 for Friday, 10-13 for Saturday, and light easterlies on Sunday. That, of course, could change as we get closer. Fingers crossed for that; KB4C is this weekend, and they need wind!
