Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Monday morning, and it’s still going to be very, very hot today: we’re expecting upper 90’s, which is better than 100+! The GFS has backed off on the wind strength for today, but the Euro is still liking the idea of significant wind. With the early morning gradient at .06 and predicted to increase as a weak low moves into the desert this afternoon, let’s go with a model blend. The wind starts with 5-10 pretty much everywhere except Viento, where 10-13 is the call. Our GFS friend likes 12-15 today, and the Euro likes 20-24. Given the dynamic nature of the setup, let’s go with gusty 14-18 after 2pm from Stevenson to Mosier. Before that, you can expect less than 11mph.

Tuesday looks a bit better as a coast trough helps drop the high temps a bit in the west. Blazing heat still rules the desert. This gives us 7-10 early in the morning from Stevenson to Swell with light wind east of there. In the afternoon, the wind picks up to 24-27 from Lyle to Rufus with gusty 19-23 from Stevenson to Mosier.

Marine clouds make it a bit farther inland on Wednesday, maybe to the metro area, setting up a 10 degree temp drop from Tuesday. We start with Dawn Patrol of 21-24 from Viento to Hood River. By late morning, you’ll find 25-28 from Stevenson to Rufus with 18-22 at Arlington in the afternoon. Thursday’s looking like it will max out at 25-29.

BONUS: Jones Monday: 17-20. Tuesday: 23-26. Wednesday: 22-25. Sauvie’s Monday: 12-15 late. Tuesday: 11-14. Wednesday: 10-13 late. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: 5-10/10-15/25-30, NW swell 7′ @ 8 seconds. Tuesday: W5/N 5-10/25-30, NW 6′ @ 8. Wednesday: 10-15/20-25/30+, NW 7′ @ 9.
