We have both wind and gradient to start the day today, and the wind and gradients will both pick up this afternoon as a cold front pushes into the PNW. Expect up and down double-digits early this morning, picking up to 15-18 east of Hood River by noon. As this weather system really pushes in, we’ll likely see rain and super-gusty teen-strength wind from Stevenson to Mosier. East of Mosier this afternoon, we’ll see gusty 23-26, possibly stronger late, as high pressure builds off the coast behind this weather system’s departure. However, the steadier, stronger wind may not arrive until after dark. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
Tomorrow morning starts off with leftover westerlies at 10-13 or a touch more from Viento eastward. The wind will fade to nothing by late morning and possibly become light easterly in the afternoon. In other words, not much wind tomorrow.

See below for details.
Wednesday starts off with east wind at 23-26 or a touch more at Rooster with 13-16 at Steven’s Locks. If the models are correct, you can expect westerlies at 13-16 on Wednesday afternoon. That seems like an overly dramatic switch to me, given the weather setup, but anything is possible, I guess.
Out on the coast, you will find (north/central/south)… Today: 10-15/5-10/LT, W swell 8′ @ 9 seconds. Tomorrow: 5-10/15-20/25-30, W 5′ @ 9. Wednesday: LT/LT/20-25, W 6′ @ 12.
Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 13-16 late. Jones tomorrow, no wind. Jones Wednesday, 10-13. Sauvie’s for the next three days: no wind.

Random Morning Thoughts
Our interactions with people, especially new people, often include an internal commentary about the person. We think about how attractive they are, we think about their outfit, we see hairstyle, body shape, accent, etc., and we use those things to form opinions about our conversation partner. We even do that with our friends. When we do that, we turn our human conversation partner into an object, and we weaken our connection.
Connection is about being with the human being who lives in the body, not about the body or its coverings. When you are spending time with someone, notice if you are thinking about their features, or if you are listening to their words and non-verbals. If you are, you are interacting with the person as an object with those features, not as a full human being. When you notice you’ve been distracted by the physical, come back to the metaphysical: to the voice, words, affect, prosody… In other words, be fully present.
In an interesting twist, I was thinking about this over my coffee yesterday. Later in the day, I started reading Martin Buber’s “I and Thou”. Not far into the book, he talks about the exact same thing. If you enjoy reading about human nature, you may enjoy this beautiful little text. But back to my point: we are relational creatures. When you interact with other humans, do your best to stay in relation to the human, not to the characteristics of that human. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking
I wasn’t able to make the time to check the trails yesterday, but I bet they’re in awesome shape after the previous day’s rain. Get out there and ride this morning – we may see showers this afternoon. In road biking news, all day tomorrow looks great – light wind – and Wednesday looks good as well. There aren’t any work parties schedule for this weekend yet, but who knows what will happen between now and then…
