Monday. Fresh snow today. Sunshine tomorrow.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast It’s another snowy spring day on Mt. Hood with several inches of new snow on the ground. Looks like we’ll on-and-off snow flurries with steady wind today and clear sky overnight. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and less than 1000′ under clear sky tonight. We’ll…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s another snowy spring day on Mt. Hood with several inches of new snow on the ground. Looks like we’ll on-and-off snow flurries with steady wind today and clear sky overnight. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and less than 1000′ under clear sky tonight. We’ll see .2-.3” water value (WV) during the day today, for 2-3” of new snow. That might actually be a bit optimistic, come to think of it. Anyway, wind today will be WSW 30-35 all day long, dropping to SW 10-15 after midnight. Just FYI, Meadow and the Crag Rats are teaming up for a fundraiser. They are selling 500 tickets for $20. Those tickets will be valid April 17th through the 20th. You can get one of those tickets by clicking here.

Tuesday looks sunny through early afternoon, after which high clouds will move in. Precip starts up around 11pm on Tuesday night. The snow level will be less than 1000′ early, rising to 5000′ in the afternoon and 6000′ after midnight. Models suggest it’s going to be just a little too warm for sticking snow at ski area base elevations with this system, but it’s also possible, especially given the time of year, that we’ll see wet snow instead of rain. So, we’ll have .3” WV on Tuesday night, for up to an inch of wet snow. W

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued

Wednesday bring light precip, most likely wet snow, but possibly wet rain, all day. The snow level will be 5500′-6000′ pretty much all day, dropping to 4500′ in the evening and 3000′ after midnight. We’ll see .1-.2” WV during the day, for up to an inch of wet snow, or maybe just mist. We’ll see another .2” in the evening, for up to another inch of wet snow. Wind on Wednesday will be SW 30-35 early, dropping to SSW 15 in the afternoon and evening.

Thursday currently looks cloudy and dry to start with snow in the afternoon and evening. The snow level will be 3000′-3500′ all day, dropping to 1000′ after midnight. We’ll see about .3” WV overnight, for 2-3” of new snow. Wind on Thursday will be SW 10 in the morning and W 20-25 in the afternoon and evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We have light west wind this Monday morning. As an upper level low moves into Washington mid-morning, the westerlies will pick up. The western Gorge will likely stay cloudy today, leaving the areas from Stevenson to Doug’s with gusty 12-15. East of The Dalles, the wind will pick up to 22-25 after noon. River temp today is about 45 degrees and river flow is 382kcfs.

Tuesday sees high pressure build inland, and that will turn the wind easterly. The Rooster and Stevenson areas will see E 20-25 all day long. In an interesting twist, models show the wind backfilling to rest of the Gorge at 10-15 in the afternoon.

Wednesday starts off with a pre-dawn burst of E 40ish at Rooster as a strong low pressure system moves northward along the coast. By daybreak, the wind will be fading, and it will stay light and variable for much of the day. As a weather system moves inland during the afternoon, the wind will pick up to W 10-13 through the entire Gorge after 2pm.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m taking a career counseling class at school right now, and that’s got me thinking about jobs and careers and work. Back in my 20’s, my parents sent me an email telling me they’d get me a job if I’d move back to Seattle. This seemed rather presumptuous to me; I had a job I liked, I lived in a town I loved (still do!), and I had plenty of time to do the things that made me happy. My folks wanted me to do something else.

Sometimes we forget that our lives and our preferences are different from the lives and preferences of the people around us, even our close friends or our children. It can be difficult to understand how someone we love so much has such different desires than we do. Because we want other people to be happy (or to give us something to be proud about), we try to convince people to do the things that would make us happy.

Secret: that’s not going to make the people we love happy. It’s far more likely that supporting our loved ones in their own development and decision making (as long as it’s not life-threatening), and helping them explore their own desires, will lead to closer connection. It can be tough to let go of our own desires for others, but in the long run, it will help them be happier, better-adjusted people who understand their own needs. You’re awesome. So are they, even if they are different. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

There is good riding on Syncline and Post and Whoopdee and Sandy Ridge. The cows are out on Hospital Hill now, so you cannot bring your dog. No, even you cannot bring your dog. If you accidentally bring your dog, leave it in the car. The landowners are kind enough to let us use their land, so let’s respect their wishes.

Upcoming Events

Coming up today, there’s meditation at 1pm at Trinity Natural Medicine. This evening at 6pm, there’s community yoga at Samadhi in White Salmon. At 6:30, there’s community yoga at the Mt. Hood Town Hall and community Zumba at St. Francis House in Odell and at the Parkdale Community Center. There’s YogaFaith in The Dalles at 6:45pm. Looking ahead to Wednesday, Greg Walden has a town hall in The Dalles at 11am and one in Hood River at 3pm. I’m sure those will be … interesting.

Have an awesome day today!
