Happy Monday, everyone! I think weโre going to have to go with no forecasts on the weekend for now. I know you use them, and I feel bad not getting them out, but I just donโt have the time while Iโm working. Feel free to check in, as there might be a bonus weekend forecast here and thereโฆ
Iโll start off with skiing today. I suggest you go today, as thereโs some uncertainty in the freezing levels the next couple of days. It was pretty good up on the mountain yesterday, with most of the groom in really good shape at Meadows. Exceptions to that were Vista Ridge and HRM face, both skating rinks. Off the groom yesterday was a mix of ice, packed powder, sastrugi, and believe it or not, powder in wind-favored spots. With another 4.5โ falling overnight (we can measure those half-inches now), the ice should disappear off the groom, and the powder stashes should build up. Theoretically, weโre supposed to get 3-5โ today, with increasing wind, so the afternoon might be a good call.
FYI, due to popular demand, the HRM lift and lot will be open this week. I expect to see row after row of cars up there. If yโall want it, yโall better use it! Said not as a representative of the mountain, of course. =)
As for the forecast for the next couple of days, well, itโs troubling. NOAAโs forecast still calls for snow both Tuesday and Wednesday, but sounding models suggest possible rain on the slopes and freezing rain in Hood River. I have my fingers crossed, as weโre expecting 1-2โ of water value tomorrow and another inch on Wednesday. If that falls as snow, weโre looking at 2-3โ total. If it falls as rain, weโll have a mess on our hands. Incidentally, models on both days suggest 30 knot winds at mountain elevationsโฆ
Speaking of wind, I know you are all dying to go windsurfing. Best chance looks like anytime at the coast over the next few days, or in Seattle on Wednesday.
As for mountain biking, I have a sinking feeling that the freeze-thaw cycle has finished the trails for a bit. If anyone has a report from yesterday, Iโd really appreciate it, but Iโm guessing Syncline and Post are mud baths, with HH questionable. Might have to check that out this morning and then head to the hill this afternoon. Ahโฆ day off!
Have a great day!
Temira
