Gorge Wind Forecast
It’s Monday morning, and it’ll still be wicked hot today. The good news is that the wind will return, and will also stick around through Friday. After that, models disagree. So, for Monday, we start with a gradient of .04 and a wee westerly. We should see a gentle build to 13-16 from Stevenson to Mosier by 2pm. Models suggest an early evening bump to 22-25 between Lyle and Doug’s with 18-21 from Stevenson to Mosier. That would be impressive and dehydrating with the 100+ degree temps. River flow is 153kcfs and temp is 70 degrees.
Marine air starts to infiltrate the Giant Heat Capacitor Metro Area on Tuesday, dropping temps about 5 degrees. That, of course, translates to wind. We’ll start with 23-26 from Viento to Doug’s with 10-13 in Stevenson and 13-16 out to Rufus. Westerlies quickly build to 26-29 from Stevenson to Rufus with 18-22 near Arlington. As always, Stevenson to Hood River will probably back off after 2pm or so, dropping to 19-22.
Wednesday also looks quite wind. Dawn Patrol at 23-26 from Viento to Mosier builds to 25-28 from Stevenson to Rufus, strongest from Doug’s to Rufus. A weak cold front on Thursday will drag marine clouds all the way to Hood River, dropping high temps back to the low 80’s. You’ll find the strongest morning wind east of Hood River – Mosier is likely to be nuclear, and the rest of the Gorge will see 28-32 Thursday, all the way to Arlington. If the clouds burn back, the Hatchery will also “go off”.
Models disagree starting with Friday, when the GFS likes 23-26 and the Euro likes 30-33. There’s zero agreement on weekend wind. Just FYI, I will be on vacation Sunday through Wednesday the 8th.
BONUS: Jones Monday: 11-14. Tuesday: 14-17. Wednesday: 21-24. Sauvie’s Monday: 10-13. Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 10-13. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: X/X/10-15, NW swell 3′ at 8 seconds. Tuesday: X/X/5-10, NW 3′ @ 8. Wednesday: X/X/5-10, NW 4′ @ 8.
Random Morning Thoughts
One of the things I love about being a therapist is that I get to be an outlet for people. So much suffering is caused by people not being able to talk about things that are important to them, things that are often shamed or stigmatized by society.
This can be past trauma, especially sexual trauma, gender identity, sexual orientation, kinks, regrets, remorse, or anything else that a person feels unsafe to vocalize.
The obvious corollary of this is that it’s important to speak your truth, especially if there’s something about that truth that feels shameful. Speaking, of course, doesn’t always mean talking. It can mean giving voice to things through art, poetry, song, dance, or any other form of expression. The important thing is to give expression to that which has been silenced, allowing the suffering to dissipate. May you feel free to be yourself. Have an awesome day.
