Gorge Wind Forecast

There’s not much happening on the river this morning, and that’s about how it will be for the next 48 hours. For Monday, we start with E 5 with a gradient of E .04. Easterlies should pick up to 13-16 or so between Rooster Rock and Viento mid-morning, fading to E 5-8 this afternoon. Areas east of Viento will have calm to very light wind all day. River flow is 113kcfs and temp is 71 degrees.

Tuesday starts out with easterlies at 12-15 from Rooster to Viento. It won’t take long for those to fade, leaving us with calm wind through the entire Gorge in the afternoon. Wednesday maintains the calm for the Dawn Patrol hours. By noon, west wind arrives at 10-13 from Stevenson to Hood River. Late in the day, the wind will probably climb to 18-22 from Stevenson to Doug’s.

Looking at Thursday, we have a prediction of west wind at 23-26. Unfortunately, thunderstorms are also a possibility. Same for Friday, when models diverge on the wind, giving us mid to upper 20’s. After that, models really diverge, making predictions for next weekend impossible.

BONUS: Jones Monday: no. Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 24-27. Sauvie’s Monday: 10-13. Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 12-15. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: 15-20/10-15/20-25, NW swell 5′ at 8 seconds. Road and Mountain Biking

Trails on private timberland (Hospital Hill, Whoopdee, Underwood, and anything else on Kreps, Stevenson, Weyerhauser, etc.) will remain closed to ALL uses until the end of fire session (significant rainfall). Washington and Oregon public lands have now banned smoking and campfires for the remainder of the season, telling you what are some of the main causes of wildfires.

Gorge 400 from Wyeth to Herman Creek has reopened. There are about 7 trees down. Plains of Abraham is open. Trails in Hood River County are now closed to motorized use due to fire danger. Bicycles are fine. The Petersburg Loop east of The Dalles has reopened for road biking. Highway 30 from Memaloose to Rowena is closed. Canyon Road in Odell has reopened.
