Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

All that beautiful accumulated snow is about to succumb to the gully-washing effects of the pineapple express. How certain is this? Not totally, but it’s quite likely.

For Monday, the mountain starts clear and ends with mixed precip. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 6500′ overnight. About 0.6” water equivalent (WE) is forecast overnight. That’s likely to start as rain, switch to snow or mixed precip, and switch back to rain after midnight. Call it an inch of wet snow. Wind: SW 5-10 early, SSE 20-30 in the afternoon, and SW 25-45 overnight.

Rain switches to snow on Tuesday morning and is followed by clear sky. Clouds build back in the evening. The snow level will be 6500′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ overnight under clear sky. About 0.4” WE is forecast in the morning. That starts as rain and ends as flurries for up to 1” new snow. That said, orographics could squeeze a few extra inches of of that. Wind: SW 25-45 early, W 50 mid-morning, W 35 in the afternoon, and W 15 overnight.

Wednesday starts dry and cold and ends warm and wet. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 8500′ in the evening when the precip arrives and 10,000′ overnight. About 0.4-0.5” ‘rain is currently forecast overnight. Wind: W 15 early turns to SW 10 in the afternoon, builds to SW 20-30 overnight, and turns to W 40 Thursday morning. Significant rainfall is forecast for Thursday and Friday. Can you say Pineapples?

Cycling

Significant rain in the last week means most trails are muddy. Please don’t ride them. If you do, you’ll be doing significant and possibly permanent damage. Also note: it’s been snowing above 2000′, so higher elevation trails may have significant snowfall. Be prepared if you’re heading up high.
