Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies continue… For Monday, we have early pressures of 30.33/30.53/30.54 for east gradients of 0.20 and 0.01. That’s enough for 40 at Iwash (Rooster) Rock, 35ish near Stevenson, and 25ish near Viento. The wind should hold all day. River flow yesterday was 59-72kcfs, river temp is 59F, and high temp forecast is 50F.

Tuesday starts with 40 near Iwash, 30-35 near Stevenson, and 20-25 near Viento. The wind drops early afternoon; Stevenson and Rooster fall to 20-25, and Viento drops below 15. Evening: 10ish at Viento with 15-20 from Iwash to Stevenson. Wednesday starts with 15 at Stevenson and 10 at Iwash. By the evening, the wind will be light and variable most places with light easterlies at Stevenson. Heavy rain moves in overnight.

Very gusty westerlies are possible on Thursday after the rain moves through. The Corridor probably won’t see the wind, but you may find some at Stevenson, Viento, or east of The Dalles (upper teens, perhaps). There’s no clear sign of significant westerlies in the next couple of weeks. Have a lovely sunny day today!

We’ll leave things there for now – no need to go into a detailed forecast. We’ll save that for when we get closer to ski season.

Cycling

FREEZE-THAW WARNING: temps dropped into the upper 20’s or less on Saturday morning. Trails that are exposed to open air (not under a tree canopy) are likely to experience freeze-thaw conditions. If you ride on thawed trails, you will do significant and permanent damage. DON’T. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. See events section of this report for upcoming trail work parties on various trail systems. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay?No trails have closed yet due to snow, but we’re likely to lose the highest-elevation trails, at least temporarily, on the 25th . If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
