Monday. Check it out – it’s raining!

dsc_9139
Today’s Gorge wind forecast contains a weather system moving through, and that will cause the wind to blow for a few hours during the middle of the day. Expect light and variable wind this morning. That will be followed by a period of west 23-26 from Rowena (maybe, or you may have to drive further east) to Arlington between the hours of 10am and 4pm. The western Gorge will likely be too cloudy and sprinkly for strong, steady wind. Expect 13-16 from Steven’s Locks to Mosier from 10am on through the afternoon. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…

Tuesday sees another weather system move through, and that will give us another round of gusty westerlies. Expect light west wind early in the morning. The wind should pick up around 10am east of Mosier. 15-18 out in the desert seems like a reasonable call for Tuesday afternoon. The western Gorge will see 7-11 or so.

High pressure builds over the region on Wednesday and an upper level low spins off the coast. This sets us up for light and variable wind in the morning and east wind at 15-20 in the afternoon and evening. Thursday currently looks like west wind at 10-13.

Random Morning Thoughts

A friend of mine shared a story on Facebook yesterday. She was grocery shopping and a man cut in front of her and put his one item on the conveyor belt. No, really, this happened. I’m pretty sure that most of you wouldn’t do such and thing and can’t even comprehend what would drive someone to do such a thing.

My friend handled this situation with grace. The question that arises for me is what we can do in these situations. Obviously the other person’s actions aren’t about us, even if they do raise issues of male dominance, feelings of powerlessness, or other unpleasant ideas.

I would vote for doing the opposite of what the person expects. In other words, this gentleman expected an argument against him cutting in line. I vote for paying for his one item. When someone tailgates you and flips you the bird in rage, wave, smile and say hello. Do the unexpected, and you might just change somebody’s world. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

I’m starting to sound like a broken record here in the weather section, and that’s annoying because there’s nothing broken about me, damnit! Anyway, it’s raining this morning and we’ll have showers on-and-off all day long, decreasing in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the upper 50’s later. Moderate wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Tuesday looks showery for much of the day with sunbeams mixed in during the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Wednesday will probably start out with the Nothing cloud. Sun arrives midday and is followed by high clouds in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the upper 50’s later. Light wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s still too wet to ride in Post, but nobody told that too all the people who were up there destroying trail yesterday while I was jogging. Syncline is a much better option today – the ground is very wet after 4” of rain so far this month. In road biking news, the rain will diminish and the wind will pick up later today. Light wind tomorrow morning should make for a nice road ride.

Upcoming Events

Happy Monday. There’s lovingkindness meditation practice with Kozen the Zen monk at Trinity Natural Medicine at noon today. There’s Tai Chi at the Mt. Hood Town Hall at 1. There’s a walking group at 5pm at One Community Health in The Dalles. There’s pickup kickball at Daubenspeck Park at 6, free yoga at Samadhi at 6, pickup basketball ($3) at the Mt. Hood Town Hall at 6:30, Zumba at St. Francis House in Odell and the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30 and YogaFaith at 6:45 at Pure Yoga in The Dalles.
