Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Well, we didn’t get 30” of snow yesterday, but we did get an amazing day and night on the mountain. Today, Monday, is starting off clear. Bluebird powder day on the way! For the rest of the week, we have light snowfall Tuesday, heavier snowfall Wednesday and Thursday, and then models disagreement for the rest of the week with a likely scenario being continued light snowfall.

Monday will be clear all day with high clouds after midnight. The free air freezing level will be 1000′-1500′ during the day and 0′ after midnight. Wind will be NW 20 in the morning, NW 10 in the afternoon, and W 20 after midnight.

Tuesday starts with high clouds and the possibility of a pretty sunrise if the clouds don’t move in too early. Light snowfall starts up around noon and continues overnight. The snow level will be 0′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 500′ after midnight. About 1” falls during the day, and another inch or two of fluffy powder overnight. Wind will be W or WNW 20-25 all day, turning SW 15 overnight.

Wednesday brings additional snowfall after 9am or so. The snow level will be 500′ early, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 500′ after midnight. About .5” water value falls during the day, for 5” of new. Another .6” falls overnight, for 6-7” of new snow. Not particularly light and fluffy, but pretty good still. Wind Wednesday will be SW 10 early, SW 20-25 in the afternoon, and WSW 20 after midnight.

As for right now, the forecast for Thursday looks like 4-5” of additional powder with the snow level peaking at 1000′. For the weekend, we’re looking at continued cool weather and low snow levels with light snowfall.

Random Morning Thoughts

Happy Monday, everyone! Sometimes we dread the start of the work week. It can feel like a burden. I ask you this: does it help to conceive of the work week that way? Sure, it may not be what you really want to do (chasing bluebird powder, gardening, reading a book in the sun), but there are things to like about work too. If there aren’t, it’s time to find something, anything to like about the thing that fills a large portion of your life.

What can you like about your job? The people? The physical activity? The fact that you get to sit in a chair and relax? The intellectual stimulation? The fact that you’re good at it? Whatever you find may not feel big enough to balance out the negatives. Yet. But over time, the more you nudge your mind in the direction of recognizing positive things, the more it will do so automatically.

Just a reminder: you do not have control over your mind, much like you do not have control over a puppy. But you can train your mind to perform in ways that reduce your suffering. You just have to be patient, much like you’d be patient with a puppy or a child. May you be free from suffering. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Road and Mountain Biking

Well, so much for mountain biking season! Everything is covered in snow and will likely stay that way for a while. Syncline might be an option, but with the freeze-thaw happening, you’ll do some serious trail damage if you ride there.
