Monday. A beautiful day and a hot week.

If you’re looking for wind in the Gorge, today’s your last chance for a bit. However, you’ll be able to find wind in other Oregon locations, so don’t you worry about how you’ll stay cool during the upcoming hot spell. As for today, we’re starting out with a deep marine layer in western Oregon with…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

However, you’ll be able to find wind in other Oregon locations, so don’t you worry about how you’ll stay cool during the upcoming hot spell. As for today, we’re starting out with a deep marine layer in western Oregon with marine clouds past Hood River. Those central Gorge clouds seem to be burning off already, a good sign for wind in the Great Ditch today. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

The 7am gradients (cat let me sleep in) today were .09 (pdx-dls), .05 (dls-psc) and .31 (eph-dls). As the desert heats up, that should give us 21-24 by mid-morning from Swell to Mosier with 24-27 this afternoon from Viento to The Dalles (possibly at Rufus/Maryhill too). Stevenson, deep in the clouds, will likely just see upper teens today, and beaches east of Biggs will see upper teens as well.

Tomorrow may start off with some lingering 10-13 from Viento to Mosier for Dawn Patrol, but the wind will back off to nothing by midday, possibly even turning light easterly in the evening. Expect east wind at 13-16 at Rooster and Stevenson on Wednesday. It’s possibly the westerlies will return as early as Thursday, but with temps forecast to remain scorching through the weekend, we’re going to have to wait a couple days before jumping on long-range forecasting.

Random Morning Thoughts

Sometimes I think I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I live in amazing town where I’m five to fifteen minutes from the things I love most. I own a (very small) place of my own, and I have a spectacular view (never mind the freeway noise – I can deal with that).

But those are just superficial things that make me feel lucky. Here’s what’s most important: I stumbled into the best job possible for me. My job gives me all the things I didn’t get growing up: gratitude, appreciation, love, support, generosity, kindness, connection with others, and the knowledge that people care. My job makes me content, connected, secure in the world, and it’s transforming me in profound ways. I guess what I’m saying is that you people are doing this. So, thanks.

Each time someone sends me a photo of a White Sprinter Van (they’re all white, you know), a rainbow (not white at all) or a unicorn (kidding, but goat emojis are close), I know that I matter. When someone makes a donation, I know that I’m helping people find more fun in the world. When someone sends a note of thanks, I know that I’ve impacted their life in a positive way. When these things happen, I like to sit and take them in.

Why? Because it’s important for all of us, in the moments when we know we matter and that people care, to stop and let that sink in. That will change us in deep and meaningful ways. The more time we spend with those positive emotions, the more likely they are to arise spontaneously.

So, thanks to all of you for using this forecast. By doing so, you’re impacting me in a positive way too. Stop and let that sink in and have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

If you were out and about yesterday, you may have seen a rainbow. You may even have sent me a rainbow. I love it when people do that. Thanks for thinking of me, peeps! Expect partly cloudy sky this morning (no rainbows) with increasing amounts of blue later on. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and mid 70’s later. Wind increases to moderate this afternoon. Tomorrow starts off in the mid to upper 50’s and climbs to the upper 80’s. Zero wind. Zero rainbows. No unicorns either. Expect temps in the low 60’s on Wednesday morning with mid 90’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows. Hot weather continues through the weekend.

Road and Mountain Biking

I was out and about picking peaches yesterday, and I noticed it was raining on the upper hills of Post Canyon. I don’t know how much it rained, and I don’t know if it impacted the dust situation, but it’s worth checking out if you have a chance. In other news, the road riding will be nice and cool today, if a bit windy later on. It’s going to get hot as fuck again starting Wednesday, so get your biking in now.
