Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Sunday’s night’s weather really under-performed the models. Instead of 4-7” of snow, the mountain received just one. One little inch. There’s really not much to add to that in the next six days; a couple of weak systems move through, but the next significant precip isn’t popping up until Sunday morning! For Monday, expect orographic snowfall on the mountain through late morning. the sky will clear in the afternoon and stay clear overnight. The snow level will be 2000′ during the day, and will fall to 500′-1000′ overnight. About 0.2” water value (WV) falls during the day, for a couple inches of new snow. Wind will be WNW 20-30 in the morning, WNW 10-15 in the afternoon, and SW 5 overnight.
Tuesday looks sunny on the mountain. Clouds move in overnight and bring just a touch of snowfall. The free air freezing level will be 500′-1000′. Overnight snowfall will probably be a trace to 1” of new, although some members of the forecast ensembles predict up to 2” of new. Wind will be SW 5 in the morning, WNW 10-15 in the afternoon, and N 5-10 overnight.
Wednesday, Christmas Day, starts cloudy and probably stays that way. The snow level will be 0′ early, 500′ in the afternoon, and back to 0′ near Mt. Hood in the evening. Just a trace of snow will fall during the day. Wind will be light and variable. Sunshine returns to Mt. Hood on Thursday. The free air freezing level will be 0-500′, and the wind will be light. As I said before, models are suggesting the next chance of precip will be next Sunday.

Maybe Syncline is okay to ride today. Other trails: too muddy to ride. Please, please don’t, or you’ll do permanent damage. Especially vulnerable are those trails that were frozen when the rain arrived; the soil structure is all blown apart, and the tread will be fragile. If you ride it, you will gouge deep ruts that may never recover. Lots of other fun things to do today!Upcoming Events
Monday events include Zumba Gold at the Hood River Adult Center at 9am. There’s Meditation and Metta with the Trinity Sangha at noon, advanced Tai Chi at the Hood River Adult Center at 1pm, and beginner/intermediate Tai Chi at 2:30 at the Adult Center. Samadhi in White Salmon has $5 yoga at 6pm and Mid-Valley Elementary hosts Zumba at 6:30.
