Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning,

It’s going to be a very nice day today, with weak high pressure giving us sunny skies and light wind. As a cool system approaches the coast late in the day, the wind will pick up a bit, blowing in the 17-21 range from Stevenson to Mosier late in the afternoon.

Tomorrow a low pressure trough moves east of the Cascades in the afternoon, giving us solid wind late. We’ll see 10-15 early in the morning, quickly building to 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier midday, and then picking up to 20-23 through the entire Gorge in the afternoon.

Saturday brings west winds in the 17-20 range, and at this point, Sunday doesn’t look that windy, as an upper level low takes up residence in the coastal waters. .

There are a couple of cool things going on tonight. There’s the Post and Pint ride out of Dirty Fingers at 5:30, followed by pints at the shop. Mitchell reports perfect riding conditions in Post, so head out for some mountain biking today if you have the time. Also tonight, it’s the Gorge Green Drinks gathering at Wet Planet, with beer by Full Sail and a talk by a Pacific Power representative about what’s going on with Condit Dam. That’s at 6:30, with a suggested donation of $10, but you can donate or not donate as you choose.

Coming up this weekend, Jimmy Lewis will be at Windance on Saturday, with free standup paddle and kiteboard demos. This event starts at 10am at the shop with muffins, juice, coffee, and schmoozing with Jimmy, followed by demos. Also on Saturday, there’s a work party at Doug’s Beach to celebrate the new perma-potty, plant new plants, and clean up some of the mess from the high water (although the water’s still high, so there will probably be another work party soon).

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
