Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning!

This week’s sponsor is Cascade Acupuncture Center. During the month of October, Cascade Acupuncture Center will offer all Happy Hour Acupuncture treatments in the Hood River Clinic on a sliding fee scale of $15-$35, and will donate 100% to the Hood River Save Our Library Committee. Happy Hour Treatments are offered on Monday, Wednesday (that’s today), Friday and Saturdays in Hood River. These are special 40 minute focus treatments designed to address stress, boost your energy, immune system and overall happiness. Speaking of boosting stress, although you can’t directly get a massage from CAC, there are 5 independent massage therapists practicing at 104 5th street. There’s a flyer box outside with their contact information. But if you need custom Chinese herbs or acupuncture, give CAC a call at 541.387.4325 to schedule your appointment!

There is a light west gradient of .06 out there this morning along with a few whitecaps on the river. High pressure building over the Northwest should shut the wind down by this afternoon, and by evening, the easterlies will start picking up. East flow won’t be super strong tomorrow, but mid twenties at Rooster and upper teens at Stevenson look likely. Sunday looks light.

If you’d like to wavesail or kitesurf, there will be plenty of wind on the coast this weekend from about Lincoln City south. 15-20 at the light spots and 25ish at the windy spots along with a 6-7 foot swell at 10 seconds is the call.

In the long range forecast, the weather should stay sunny through next week. Wow…

Coming up this evening, you can shoot trap at the Hood River Gun Club (that’s near Tucker Bridge), or you can head to Dog River Coffee to see “Television”, the new PowderWhores movie (I almost typed “PowerWhores” there… oops). That’s at 8pm, costs $5, and gives you a chance to win some cool swag.

Tomorrow night brings 2nd Wind’s http://www.facebook.com/temira#!/event.php?eid=163653960326784> official pre-season ski party at the Horse and Hound Pub. The Meatheads ski movie plays outside on the big screen at 8pm and the DJ starts inside at 9pm. This event – Hot Tub Time Machine Snow Party – is sponsored by Skibowl, so dress up in your best 80’s gear for a chance to win some Skibowl Swag!

Don’t drink too much at the party, ‘cuz during the day Sunday, there’s a work party in Post Canyon to (hopefully) finish the new trail, Sexy Beast. Meet at the Binn’s Hill staging area at 9am. Bring flat shovels and anything else you might need to build a trail.

Have an awesome day today!
