Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It seems that we’ve finally entered a stretch of spring skiing on Mt. Hood. As best I can remember, we didn’t have a single day of spring skiing until actual spring this year, which means it was a great season for powder. Now, on to today: We’ll see sunshine this morning and thunderstorms this afternoon with rain overnight. The snow level will be around 12,000′ all day. We’ll see about 1/3” rain tonight (unless strong thunderstorms and heavy rain hit the mountain). Wind will be S 15 or so all day, except during the thunderstorms when the wind will do whatever it feels like doing.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued
Friday starts off rainy, turns showery, and may end with a few snowflakes before the sky turns clear overnight. The snow level will be 11,000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon. We’ll see about .2” water value (WV), for mostly rain with a trace of snow possible. Wind will be W 30 for most of the day and W 20 in the afternoon and evening.
Saturday looks sunny in the morning with high clouds possible in the afternoon and clear sky overnight. The free air freezing level will be 3000′ early and 5000′ in the afternoon. With the sun angle high, this will likely set up a great day of corn snow after the overnight snap thaws. Wind Saturday will be NW 15-20 all day. Saturday is Meadows’ last day of the season. Sunday looks clear and sunny. The free air freezing level will be 3000′ early and 6000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 15.

Gorge Wind Forecast
It’s Thursday morning, and the east wind is blowing at 15-20 at Rooster. I’m so sad I’m not on my bike riding to school right now, because that’s perfect conditions! And you thought wind was for wind sports. Anyway, the easterlies will die off by midday and switch to west 13-16 after 4pm. That forecast comes with a caveat: thunderstorms in the afternoon forecast could cause the wind to be randomly strong, gusty, and filled with lightning and hail. It’s probably best if you skip it!
Friday sees a weather system swing through early. A trough of low pressure inland combines with high pressure off the coast for strong synoptic-scale gradients. That means “big area”. In other words, the wind through the Gorge will be boosted by the gradient from high pressure way out in the Pacific. So, expect dawn patrol at 26-30 east of The Dalles. The wind will pick up to 30+ from Mosier to Arlington in the afternoon. That might end up being Rowena to Arlington. Models suggest the wind in the far-east Gorge – Arlington, Threemile, etc. – will back off after 2pm. The western Gorge from Cascade Locks to Hood River (maybe Mosier) will probably stay under the clouds with gusty 15-18.
Saturday looks like a sunny, stable day. Low pressure inland combines with high pressure offshore for strong westerlies. Although the GFS isn’t showing all that much wind, I suspect we’re going to beat the forecast. Let’s go with Dawn Patrol at 18-22 from Swell to The Dalles with 24-28 in the afternoon from Stevenson to Rowena. In other words, it looks like this will be our first solid Corridor day of the season. Sunday looks similar to Saturday in terms of wind strength, but I suspect the wind will be gustier.

It’s a beautiful day in the Pacific Northwest, and I’m sitting here appreciating the view from my window. That’s really all I have in this moment this morning: it’s beautiful here. I’m so lucky. So are all you. Take a moment to be grateful for being alive in this place, at this time, with enough time, money, and privilege to be able to play the sports we get to play. Have an awesome day!

It’s a beautiful, sunny, warm, muggy morning out there. Ah, yes. Feels like summer! Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the low 80’s this afternoon. Our friends at NWS are calling for thunderstorms this afternoon, possibly severe. So, expect clouds later, rain, hail, gusty wind, and lightning. Light wind most of the day, strong wind tonight. 43% chance of rainbows. Friday looks cloudy and showery in the western Gorge and sunny out east. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early and upper 50’s in the afternoon. Strong wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Saturday looks sunny. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Moderate to strong westerlies. No rainbows. Sunday looks sunny too.

Road and Mountain Biking
I’m not sure if it was warm enough yesterday to dry out the muddy areas of Post, which means I should probably go find out! In road biking news, it will be muggy today, and there will likely be thunderstorms this afternoon. But you’ll find light wind and sunshine this morning, so get out there!
Upcoming Events
Today’s events include a free community dance exercise class at the White Salmon grange at 11. Dirty Fingers bike shop has two mountain bike shop rides today at 5:30, a race-pace ride and a women’s only ride. There’s community yoga at 6 at Samadhi and Tai chi at Our Savior Church in Bingen.
Tomorrow morning is the Kickstand Coffee run in Hood River at 7am. Drag yourself out of bed, jog 4 miles, and get a free cup of coffee and a donut. Coming up this weekend, there’s a free kids fishing clinic at Rowena on Saturday and a Garden Party at Pacific Hermitage.
