Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s Friday, and as I mentioned yesterday, there’s some disagreement within model products about the snow level today. That’s leading to uncertainty about whether the precipitation will stay frozen over the upcoming 24 to 36 hour period. After that, the snow level will drop down to snow-for-sure through Tuesday.
For Friday, an incoming system brings moderate moisture. The snow level will be about 4000′ in the morning. If the 850mb temp models are correct, the snow level will rise to 6000′ today. If you trust the sounding model, the peak will be 4500′. Given the SW flow, I’m going with the higher elevation prediction. So, the snow level will be around 4000′ this morning, 6000′ this afternoon, and around 5000′ tonight. We’ll see .7” water value (WV) or so during the day, for 3-4” of dense snow, potentially mixed with rain as the day goes on. Another .1” WV falls tonight, maybe as snow. Wind will be WSW 30 in the morning and WSW 35 from mid-afternoon on through the night.
Prediction problems persist on Saturday as the snow level bounces around between 4500′ and 6000′ before falling to 4000′ on Sunday morning. It appears we’ll see about .1” WV Saturday daytime, most likely as wet snow. Another .2-.4” falls overnight (really depends on the exact location of a front) for 1-3” snow. Wind will be WSW 35 in the morning, SSW 15-20 in the afternoon, and SW 10 overnight.
Sunday looks snowy. The snow level will be 4000′ all day and 1000-1500′ after midnight. About .4” WV falls during the day for 4” of new. Another .2”+ falls overnight, for at least 2” of new snow, maybe quite a bit more depending on front location. Wind will be SW 10 in the morning, SW 15-20 in the afternoon, and WNW 25 overnight.
Monday brings light orographic snowfalls with sunbreaks in the afternoon. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ overnight. About .2” WV falls during the day, for a couple inches of new. Same overnight – a couple inches of additional snowfall. Wind will be WNW 25 in the morning, W 30 int eh afternoon, and WNW 35 after midnight. Light snowfall continues on Tuesday.
Random Morning Thoughts
One of the really wonderful things about being a therapist is that it forces me to be open to all sorts of new experiences. My job is to understand my clients as deeply as possible and to, essentially, walk in their shoes. Without going into details and risking a break in confidentiality, I will say that this encourages me to try new things that are completely outside of my experience.
In my life outside my office, my experience can be limited by the fact that certain behaviors or activities are “not my thing”. By immersing myself in the perspective of others, the “not my thing” becomes interesting, exciting, worth trying.
Try it for yourself something. The next time you find yourself saying, “That’s not my thing,” see if you can really enter into the perspective of the person who likes that thing. See if you can understand what’s there worth exploring. Give that thing a shot, and see what happens for you. If nothing else, you might shake up your world just a little bit and create space for new experiences. May you be curious and open. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Road and Mountain Biking
It’s too wet to ride anywhere this morning without damaging the trails. The cows are out on Hospital Hill, and that means NO DOGS. Even your dog! The next chance for a decent day of road riding will be Saturday east of Hood River.
