Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There’s not much snow to talk about in the Mt. Hood snow forecast this morning. For today, expect clear sky. The free air freezing level will be 6500′ all day and all night. Wind today will be W 45 in the morning, fading to WNW 30 in the afternoon and dropping to SW 15-20 overnight.

Saturday starts off clear and quickly turns cloudy. Rain or a rain/snow mix or maybe wet snow starts up around 10am. Steady something-precip continues through 4pm, after which there will be lighter orographic precipitation. As of the time of this forecast, the GFS was running a little cooler than the Euro, with the snow level at 6000-6500′ for the bulk of the precip. The snow level is forecast to drop to 3000′ after the precip moves through. I’m guessing we’ll see an inch or two of snow mid-morning Saturday, followed by an inch of rain and then an inch of snow at the tail end of this system. Total water value between mid-morning Saturday and 4am Sunday will be 1.3”. Wind on Saturday will be SW 15 early, SW 30 mid-morning, WSW 35 in the afternoon, and WNW 35 after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Sunday looks clear early, cloudy midday, partly cloudy in the afternoon, and clear overnight. The free air freezing level will be 3000′ in the morning, steadily rising during the day to a max of 10,000′ after midnight. Wind on Sunday will be WNW 35 in the morning, W 15 midday, and WSW 25 overnight.

Monday currently looks rainy. The snow level will be 9000′-10,000′ all day. Around 1-1.5” of rain will fall between 5am Monday and 5am Tuesday. Wind on Monday will be WSW 30-35 through 5pm, dropping to W 20 in the evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We have a solid west gradient this morning and the GFS insists the wind will pick up today. I think we’ll eventually see W 10-13 west of The Dalles with 26-30 east of The Dalles. Saturday starts with E 30-35 at Rooster, backs off to calm conditions by 11am and turns to W 10-13 in the afternoon. Sunday starts with W 10-13 and turns around to E 5-10 in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

Ya know… I’m not feeling like delving in to stuff today. So, I’m going to be kind and gentle to myself, and skip the reflection this morning. You go ahead and be kind and gentle to yourself today too, okay? Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s a warm and breezy morning, and it’s looking like Syncline should be rideable this afternoon, perhaps with the exception of the doubletrack. I haven’t talked to anyone who’s ridden Hospital Hill, but it tends to stay muddy longer, so let’s avoid it for now. Other than that, it’s 55 degrees, and a road ride might just be the ticket today!

Upcoming Events

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, the Mt. Hood Roundup skinning and skiing event is scheduled for 8am on Saturday at White River Snopark. You may want to check the conditions before heading over, as it’s been raining in the backcountry and the forecast is for more rain.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
