Gorge Wind Forecast

If you thought yesterday afternoon near Swell was windy, wait until you see today. We started our Friday with gradients of .18 from Portland to The Dalles and .08 from The Dalles to Pasco. These gradients suggest that Just About Anywhere will be windy today. Get it today, because the wind will back off the next two days.

So, Friday… We start with 10-13 in the west, 21-25 Viento to Mosier, and 15-18 east of there. As the atmosphere stabilizes through mid-morning, the wind will pick up. 28-32 from Viento to Rufus seems like a safe call with 22-25 at Arlington and 25-29 at Stevenson. I wouldn’t be surprised, given the gradients, to see even stronger wind lat times between Mosier and Rufus. Take your smallest gear.

High pressure builds inland this evening and overnight, and a weak upper low approaches the coast Saturday afternoon. The one-two combo will result in significantly less wind on Saturday; we start with 15-18 (maybe 17-20) from Viento to Swell. That should hold all day, filling in to Doug’s later. Stevenson starts with 5-10 and picks up to 15-18. Areas east of Doug’s will remain in the 5-10 range.

The forecast for Sunday has changed again, and there’s also little agreement between the models. The GFS likes 12-15 ealry, fading to 7-11. The Euro, on the other hand, likes 12-15 during the morning with 18-22 in the afternoon. I imagine this is making for a tricky call for the Paddle Challenge Downwinder selection…

BONUS: Jones Friday: 23-26. Sautrday: 14-17. Sunday: 12-15. Sauvie’s Friday: 10-13. Saturday: 12-15. Sunday: 12-15. Coast (north/central/south). Friday: 5-10/15-20/30+, NW swell 5′ at 9 seconds. Saturday: 5-10/15-20/30+, NW 5′ @ 8. Sunday: W5/W5/30+, NW 5′ @ 8.
