It’s partly cloudy and high overcast at Mt. Hood this morning, where Mt. Hood Meadows is hoping to have Superbowl open (apparently they opened it yesterday). If you are interested in hiking, you’ll need a beacon, shovel, probe and partner. We should see mostly clear sky all day today with the free air freezing level (FAF) at less than 1000′. Wind will be light and variable. Continued after the chart.

Random Morning Thoughts
Something happened to me this week that really caught me off guard. Actually, several things did, leaving me reeling as I walked into my first couple of classes for the quarter.
Sometimes we fall into a place where outside influences cause so much chaos in our nervous systems that we are unable to come back into balance. We are only human, after all, and we can only handle so much before we are overwhelmed. Our nervous systems, fortunately, are built to be regulated by those around us; we learn to self-regulate through the attunement of our parents (hopefully, if we are lucky and have good-enough parents). When we get knocked completely off kilter, we can take advantage of this back door and allow those around us to help pull us out of a bad space.
This looks different for different people, but it’s most likely going to include empathic listening, quite companionship, and unconditional positive regard (you can call that love, if you want). Some things are just too big to handle alone. That’s why we’re wired in such a way that others can help regulate us. Take advantage of that – it’s okay to reach out for help when you’re really upset. It’s what your system is wired to do. Call it a mind/body hack, if you like. It’s there. Use it. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
I started writing the forecast this morning and was unpleasantly surprised to see that a snowstorm has materialized for Saturday. Meh. Today will have the Nothing down low and partly cloudy to clear sky up high. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and the mid 30’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows. No precip.
Saturday starts out cloud with snow/sleet/freezing rain in the western Gorge starting around 7am and snow in the central Gorge starting around 10am, with the snow level at the surface and temps right around 30. If the temp model is correct, we’ll rise to the mid 30’s in the afternoon. I’m not sure I buy that. Anyway, expect mixed precip in the western gorge, with .3-.6” water value. Expect snow in the central Gorge, with 2-3” of snowfall. East wind. No rainbows.
Sunday starts off with the Nothing. Temps will be right around 32 early and in the mid 30’s in the afternoon. We may see the sky clear in the afternoon, for a happy glimpse of blue sky and sun. East wind. No rainbows. Monday looks clear and sunny (oh please), with east wind and no rainbows.
