Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Random Morning Thoughts

It’s a busy Friday for me, the end of a busy week. Reflection will have to wait until later. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Friday will be a snow flurry sort of day on Mt. Hood. The snow level will be around 2000′ in the morning and 2500′ in the afternoon, falling to 1000′ or less overnight. We’ll see about 2” of snow during the day and a trace overnight. Wind will be W 25 in the morning and W 20 overnight. Saturday starts with low clouds and turns snowy after 8pm. The snow level will be around 500-1000′ early and 1500′ in the afternoon, with the overnight snow level directly related to the path of an incoming weather system (probably 3000′-4000′ on Mt. Hood and lower in the Gorge). We’ll see about 4” of snow Saturday night. Wind will be NW 10 in the mornign and W 20 overnight.

The forecast for Sunday also depends on the path of this low pressure system (see the TATAS forecast for more details). Generally speaking, the moutnain will receive 8-10” of snow on Sunday, mostly during the day, with west wind at 25mph or so.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy morning, and we’ll have on and off showers all day. Temps will be near 40 early and near 50 this afternoon. Light wind goes to light westerly later. 94% chance of rainbows. Expect icy roads above 1000′ tonight, especially in locations where you can see the stars. Saturday looks showery and then rainy. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind goes easterly after sunset. 87% chance of rainbows. Depending on where this next low pressure system goes, we may see snow on Sunday. Please read the TATAS forecast (on Facebook!) for more details.
