today’s gorge wind forecast
Hi friends! West wind has returned to the Gorge this morning, but it’s going to fade quickly as high pressure builds inland. We’re then set up for two days of solid, long-lasting easterlies as a heat low sets up over the coast and Willamette Valley.
Looking at Friday morning, we have light onshore gradients. Strongest westerlies as I was writing this were from Rufus eastward at 16-19mph. That’s about all we’ll see today โ models keep areas west of The Dalles under 10mph as high pressure quickly builds inland. The eastern Gorge fades to 11-14mph this afternoon or earlier. But hey, this afternoon looks sunny! River flow over the last 24 hours was 83-127kcfs, river temp is 55.6F, and high temp forecast is 55F for Hood River.

tomorrow’s gorge wind forecast
Saturday kicks off with strong offshore gradients and solid easterlies. Iwash (Rooster) Rock starts the day at 30mph, climbs to 35-40mph mid-morning, and doesn’t drop much in the afternoon. Stevenson starts with 25-30mph, rises to 30mph, and drops to 25mph in the afternoon. Viento: 20ish. Areas east of Hood River rise to 10mph in the afternoon. Low temp: 36F in Hood River. High temp: 54F.
extended Gorge wind forecast

Sunday looks similarly conducive to your wind-sporting. Iwash starts with 40-45mph and only fades to 40mph. Stevenson: 30mph fading to 25mph. Viento: 20-25mph fading to 15-20mph. Areas east of Viento rise to 5-10mph in the afternoon. Low temp: 36F for Hood River. High temp: 55F.
Looking at the extended forecast, we have the possibility for westerlies in the teens (with dry weather) near Hood River on Monday afternoon. Tuesday brings light easterlies. Stronger easterlies, perhaps 30mph at Iwash, are forecast for Wednesday. Looking deeper into the future… active weather returns this weekend, but models currently have no sign of that big west wind day you’ve been waiting for. Enjoy the easterlies!

MT HOOD SNOW FORECAST

Hi skiers and snowboarders! Not much to talk about in the next week or so in our Mt Hood snow forecast, but models still hold out hope for accumulating snowfall starting around the 17th. We shall wee if that forecast holds! In the meantime… Snow flurries Friday morning give way to clear sky overnight as high pressure builds in. The snow level will be 3500′ all day. The free air freezing level tonight will be up and down as warmer air starts to move in. Wind: WNW 30 this morning, WNW 15 this afternoon, SE 15 tonight.

Good morning, neighbors! Who’s ready for a couple days of dry weather? Meeeeee! Maybe youuuuuuu tooooo! I’m making a giant compost lasagna in my garden. While I had fun layering it yesterday, I was soaked. Bring on the dry! We actually have a fair bit of dry in the forecast through this upcoming week โ a little drizzle is forecast late Monday, and then we’re waiting until Friday for the next round of significant rain. This means I get to take a day or two off from forecasting this week!
Glenwood this morning
Looking at Friday morning, we have 42 degrees in Glenwood and a cloud engulfing Mt. Adams. Chances are the aliens are using that cloud cover to scheme about how to build a replacement Hood River Bridge that’ll do stealth anal probes on all who cross it. Because that’s what aliens do, right? And hey, we’re more likely to get a new bridge by cooperating with aliens than trying to get money from the federal government.
Today’s Gorge weather forecast
Friday’s weather consists of morning showers west of The Dalles and sunshine to the east. By the afternoon, we’ll all be mostly clear. I SEE BLUE SKY IN YOUR FUTURE! Temps rise to the mid 50s (west) and upper 50s (east). Wind will be less than 10mph west of The Dalles all day. East of The Dalles: 15-20mph early and 10-15mph this afternoon.
Saturday & Sunday Gorge weather forecast
A few high clouds move in overnight, but they’re unlikely to be thick enough to protect outlying areas from frost on Saturday morning. Low temps drop into the low-mid 30s away from the Columbia (Nch’i Wana). Nothing pops up along the river in response to the radiational cooling. West of Viento, east wind stirs the air, keeps temps in the 40s, and frustrates attempts of clouds to form. Afternoon: high clouds and temps in the mid 50s. Expect a breezy day in the western Gorge: 40mph near Iwash (RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES) Rock, 30mph near Stevenson, and 20-25mph near Viento. East of Viento, easterlies rise to 10-15mph in the afternoon in the lowlands and 10-20mph in the hills. Sunday looks very similar all around: wind, temps, sky coverage, lack of rain, etc…
Extended Gorge weather forecast
Thanks to warm air aloft (15C!!!) and west wind, Monday looks warmer. Temps top out in the low 60s west of Rufus. Out in the desert, a cool pool (where the cool kids gather to swim in cool water and practice the latest slang) results in highs in the mid 50s. Wind will be light east in the morning and west 15-20mph west of The Dalles in the afternoon. A touch of drizzle is possible overnight, although dry air in place could prevent it from reaching the lowlands.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are likely to be dry. Rain returns at the end of next week because Ma Nature is insistent on getting us to โnormalโ rainfall this year after a few years falling short. Take a moment right now to 1) take a deep breath and 2) be happy for the trees. They’ve been thirsty, and their thirst is being slaked. Safe travels. -TATAS
