Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s a snowy morning on Mt. Hood, and if the models have their way, more snow will fall today. The snow level will be (at least in the Gorge, because that’s my reference point) less than 500′ all day. Mt. Hood will receive .5” water value (WV) between 7am and 4pm, for 5-6” of new snow. Another .2” WV will fall between 4pm and midnight, before the sky becomes partly cloudy. Wind today will be SW 10-15 early SW 20-25 in the afternoon, and WNW 25 after midnight. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
Saturday may start off with a few flurries on Mt. Hood, but it should turn clear during the day. The models are also showing a possibility of a little bit of snow overnight, but I’m not so sure that’s going to happen. Anyway, the snow level on Saturday will be 500′ or less. No snow accumulation during the day, and up to 2” overnight. Or no snow overnight. It’s an inexact science, yo. Wind on Saturday will be WNW 25 during the daylight hours, fading to W 15 overnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished
Sunday looks clear and sunny on the mountain with low clouds below 5000′. Temps at 5000′ will be in the low to mid 20’s all day. Wind on Sunday will be W 15 in the morning and W 10 in the afternoon.
Monday starts out clear with low clouds. High clouds move in mid-morning, and snow starts up sometime around 7pm, continuing all the way through, oh, probably Wednesday. The snow level will start out at sea level (in the Gorge), rising to about 5000′ after midnight and dropping back down around 2000′ on Tuesday. This system is going to bring 1.5 to 2 feet of snow by Wednesday.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Wind today, Friday, will be E 40 at Rooster and E 25 at Stevenson early, picking up to E 45 mid-morning before fading this afternoon. Although models suggest west wind, I suggest the models show the trademark blue hole that leaves the area from Hood River to The Dalles undisturbed, not windy, for the entire day. Saturday’s high-res models suggest light west wind, but the low-res model suggests we’ll have no wind near Hood River. Anyway, max westerlies of 10-13 will be found near Cascade Locks and Arlington. Sunday looks light and variable early with E 10-15 in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’ve talked a few times about how our preconceived notions of things constrict our life options. Sometimes we even take someone else’s words or opinions for gospel. Instead of having an experience or a thought, we incorporate and trust the thoughts and experiences of other people.
For the most part, it’s best if we create our own opinions. There are some exceptions, of course. We don’t need to kill, cheat or steal to know that those actions hurt other people. There are cross-cultural moral and ethical ideals that we can probably accept, although it’s still good to contemplate the whys of those codes.
Now, we get to my point. It’s a near-universal belief that fruitcake is a joke, a disgusting and distasteful holiday creation. Some people would apply those same adjectives (disgusting, distasteful) to people of a certain skin color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. But I would suggest that it’s possible for fruitcakes to be delicious. Check out this recipe, for example. If fruitcake can be good, then it must be possible that all those people and ideas that don’t resonate with you might also be good. Eat the fruitcake. Get to know people who are different than you. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s going to be a cloudy day with a lot of Nothing and wet snow flurries. Temps will be in the low to mid 30’s all day. Models say we’ll get 1-3” of snow. Given the temps and the radar, I think we’ll see the lower end of that. East wind. No rainbows. Saturday brings Nothing with occasional flurries in the morning. No accumulation. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and the mid 30’s (maybe?) in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Sunday looks colder. The Nothing will be prominent (head to the mountain for sun). Temps will be in the mid 20’s early and low 30’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Looks like we’re headed for a major snowstorm Monday night into Tuesday, with a minimum of 4-6” of snow in Hood River and 8-10” of snow in Cascade Locks.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Well, we had a couple of days when you could ride on the road, but we’re back to snowy and icy roads again this morning. Our trails are covered in snow too. I know some of you have been riding Syncline because it was snow-free, but remember we are in freeze-thaw season. If it was below freezing last night and is above freezing now, the trails are subject to massive damage from your tires. Please don’t do it!
Upcoming Events
Today at 5pm, you can go to the Dirty Fingers Christmas Party. It’s at Kickstand Coffee. Apparently there’s nothing big going on other than drinks, a firepit, and socializing. Sounds lovely.
Have an awesome day today!
