Friday. More dry weather for your playing pleasure!

There was very little wind and very many fishing boats near Hood River this morning, but the fishing weather will deteriorate as the day goes on. Before we get to the wind, the fish counts from yesterday: 15,683 Chinook and 1579 Steelhead. On to the wind… Expect the westerlies to pick up to up-and-down 13-16…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow starts off with 16-19 everywhere but Stevenson and picks up to 24-27 in the afternoon from Stevenson to Rufus. There is a weak weather system mixed up in the picture tomorrow, so expect somewhat unreliable and rather gusty wind.

Sunday starts off with 5-10 and picks up to 10-13, strongest from Stevenson to Hood River. As of right now, we’re looking at easterlies of some sort on Monday.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m sitting here in a happy little bubble of bliss this morning; I spent the last 36 hours connecting with amazing people. Equally importantly, I spent the last 36 hours seeing myself reflected in the eyes of people I respect, admire, and care deeply about.

So many of us don’t believe in ourselves. We secretly wonder if people will, over time, discover us as someone other than who they see now. We believe, at our core, that we are bad or unloveable or unworthy or some other unpleasantry. We may believe this unconsciously, experiencing the world and our relationships with a continual sense of discomfort, worry and lack of ease.

This can change.

In the meantime, stop for a moment and reflect upon the people who choose to be around you. You are a flower, and they are the bees drawn to your nectar. They, believe it or not, see you for who you are. And they like you, or they wouldn’t be there. My friends, you are your friends; they reflect you back to you.

If you don’t like them so much, it may be time to take a look inward at what you don’t like about you, because youre view of yourself will affect your friend choices. If you do like your friends, you are liked by them. End of discussion. They’re there because you’re worthy. They’re there because you’re loveable. They’re there because you’re a good and decent human being. And because you’re awesome. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It was mostly cloudy when I crawled out of bed this morning. That’s due to a wide and wavy (says NOAA) front that’s clipping the region. Expect the sky to clear up some this afternoon. In the meantime, expect temps in the low 50’s early and mid 70’s this afternoon. Light wind early, moderate late. Tomorrow looks partly cloudy with temps in the low 50’s early and mid 70’s late with moderate wind. Sunday looks partly cloudy with temps in the upper 40’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind.

Road and Mountain Biking

There does seem to be some rain falling out of this weather system, but that rain isn’t anywhere near us. So, expect a continuation of dusty trail conditions near Hood River with better dirt on the trails near Old Man Pass. Road biking looks good this morning (light wind) and on Sunday (light wind all day).

Upcoming Events

Today’s Friday, and every Friday morning is the Kickstand Coffee run leaving 13th and State at 7am, going for a 4 mile jog, and returning for a free cup of coffee and a donut. Tonight at 6:30, the movie Reel Rock – hardcore rock climbing – shows at the HRV Middle School as a fundraiser for scholarships to Little Oak Montessori. Tickets available at Brown Paper Tickets.

Coming up this weekend, there’s a cross race for you cyclists – it’s the Battle of Barlow at Barlow High School in Troutdale, just outside the Gorge, but still close enough for Gorge cyclists. Next weekend is Cross on the Mountain, a cyclocross race at Cooper Spur Resort.

In other cycling news, Northwest Trails Alliance has a shuttle day at Sandy Ridge tomorrow. You’ll need to sign up ahead of time, and if you’re not planning on joining the shuttle day, maybe consider a different Saturday ride. Coming up Sunday, you can help out local high school athletes by joining the fundraiser run at Kickstand Coffee. 9Am, by donation, and it includes a free cup of coffee.

Have an awesome day today!
