Gorge Wind Forecast

Happy Friday morning! A cold front moving through tonight and Saturday will amplify the cross-Cascade gradients and give us moderate westerlies. Offshore high pressure on Sunday combines with lower pressure inland for steadier west wind. After that, we’re looking at an extended period of building easterlies next week.

For Friday, a cold front moving in from the NW will ramp the winds up as the day goes on. Gradients started out basically flat, which means you have a couple hours to get in some light wind activities. By early afternoon, the wind will pick up to gusty 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier. As clouds move into the western Gorge mid-afternoon, the strongest wind will move eastward; The Dalles to Arlington will see gusty 20-23. At this point, western Gorge wind will drop to 10-13ish. River flow is 68,700 cfs and temp is 65 degrees.

Saturday starts out with showers and rainbows and light westerlies at 10-13 everywhere. As the front moves eastward and high pressure builds offshore, the wind will pick up to 22-26 from Lyle to Arlington with gusty 10-15 in the western Gorge. Models disagree on Sunday, but the setup sure seems conducive to wind. After a chilly, low wind start, westerlies pick up to 23-26 from Stevenson to The Dalles.

Easterlies start on Monday and continue through the week. Models agree that averages will pick up 5-10mph each day, maxing out in the 35-40mph range near Rooster Rock late in the week. Temps will pick back up into the 75-80 range too, making for pleasant conditions on the river.

BONUS: Jones Friday: no. Saturday: 7-10. Sunday: 10-13. Sauvie’s Friday: no. Saturday: NW 10-13. Sunday: 10-13. Keep an eye on Monday for Sauvie’s. Coast (north/central/south).
