Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
It’s Friday morning, and temps are right on the edge for snow or rain on the mountain. After today, though, there’s no doubt of what precipitation type we’ll see: snow! Details for Friday: overcast with precipitation starting around 7am and continuing through Saturday morning. Snow level 6000′ early, 5500′ in the afternoon, 5000′ in the evening, and 4500′ overnight. Daytime will probably be a rain/snow mix or wet snow. 0.2” water value (WV) means up to 1” of wet new snow. Another 0.3” WV falls overnight, for 2-3” of dense snow. Wind will be SW 30 all day, slowly fading to SW 15-20 after midnight.
Saturday looks cloudy with light snow that becomes steadier in the evening. The snow level will be 4500′ during the day and 3000′ after midnight. Just a trace falls during the day. 0.2” WV falls overnight, for a couple inches of new snow. Wind will be SW 15-20 early fading to SW 5-10 in the afternoon and evening.
Light snowfall continues on Sunday with plenty of sunbreaks. Steadier snow arrives overnight (likely at your house too). The snow level will be 3000′ early, 1000′ during the day, and 0′ in the evening. Up to 0.1” WV during the day means up to 1” of new snow. About 0.2” WV falls overnight, for 2-3” of powder. Wind: SW 5-10 early, WSW 15-20 during the day, SW 10 in the evening, and S 15 overnight.
Monday looks snowy across the entire region, but models disagree on the exact details. The mountain is looking at maybe an inch or two of snow. The big news is dropping temps – they’ll be in the teens on the slopes by the afternoon. Cold weather continues for the rest of the week, but it’ll be mostly dry until Friday. Hopefully we get enough snow over the weekend to turn the slopes to packed powder for an excellent week of groomed runs!
Gorge Wind Forecast
For Friday, we starts with 30-35 near Rooster and 15-20 near Stevenson and Viento with light easterlies to Biggs and light westerlies farther east. The wind will steadily fade to zero this afternoon. Sunday looks like west 20-23 from Stevenson to Hood River in the morning. In the afternoon, the wind will drop to 10-13 in the west and pick up to 20-23 from Mosier to Rufus. Starting around Sunday, cold air will begin pouring in from the east, giving us moderate to strong east wind through the entire Gorge… quite the rare setup!

Road and Mountain Biking
I’m now getting consistent reports that Post and Hospital are “perfect dirt”. If you head out today, be mindful of areas not under the canopy. Those locations were likely sub-freezing last night and may be freeze-thaw today. It’s definite freeze-thaw above upper 8-Track, so please no shuttling. That’s a situation where the soil structure liquefies, leaving it susceptible to damage. If you encounter freeze-thaw, please turn around so you don’t undo the hard work of volunteer trail crews. Whoopdee was reported to me by the trail builder as freeze-thaw, so please don’t go there.
