Gorge Wind Forecast

Not much wind is in the forecast the next couple of days as high pressure dominates the picture. A weather system swings through later this weekend resulting in moderately strong westerlies Sunday and perhaps Monday. Harvest Fest is this weekend at the Event Site. It’s (obviously) closed to launching and landing starting today. Expect lots of traffic on the waterfront.

Friday’s wind starts light and variable. Not much more happens. We could see westerlies at 8-12 from Stevenson to Viento, perhaps to Hood River, from mid-afternoon on. River flow is 40,100cfs, river temp is 59F, and high temp forecast is 66F. Saturday starts light and variable. Once again, we might see a westerly breeze in the afternoon. There’s a shot at 10-13 from Stevenson to Mosier from Mid-afternoon on.

Looking at Sunday, we see more wind but significant gustiness. Westerlies start light and variable in the west and 10-13 east of The Dalles. By midday, the wind rises to gusty 17-20 from Viento to The Dalles with light/variable wind to the east. In the afternoon, as this system moves through, the wind rises to gusty 23-26 from Viento to Maryhill with 10-13 east to Blalock and light/variable wind at Arlington and Threemile. The current forecast for Monday is 20-23, probably from Mosier eastward. All this is subject to change as the timing and strength of weather systems changes! Enjoy!

Cycling

Please help the HRATS out: sign up to volunteer for the Post Canyon Enduro the weekend of the 15th. HRATS receives money from the event organizers, and that money goes towards building and repairing trails. SDS and Kreps lands have reopened. Washington DNR land is also open now. All other trails are open at this time. Motorized use is still not allowed in areas where it was closed due to fire season. In other news… thanks to last week’s rain, the dirt is nearly perfect in most places. More rain is coming, so get ready for more brown pow!

Local Events

Harvest fest is Friday through Sunday at the Hood River Event Site. The Enduro is happening in Post Canyon this weekend. Expect heavy rider traffic and lots of closures. Ride elsewhere. The Columbia Gorge Marathon is October 24th. The HRATS have trail work parties on October 23rd. As of this morning, the only one listed on their link is a work party on Bad Motor Scooter in Post. TKO has a trail work party at Wyeth on the 16th.
