Friday Gorge wind forecast: happy 4th. It’s windy… and should be windy through at least Wednesday. TATAS weather: It’s freakin’ perfect today.

It was blowing 20-24mph to start the day between Viento and Swell with teens to the east and west. Wind of similar strength sticks around for Saturday. Sunday and Monday’s Gorge wind forecast looks a bit lighter, but probably still windy enough to get you out there cooling yourself off. Uncertainty is high for Tuesday…

GORGE WIND FORECAST

today’s gorge wind forecast

Hi friends! I had a late start this morning, but the wind sure didn’t. Uncertainty is high for Tuesday in response to questions about high temps and possible cooling. On Wednesday, we have The Cooldown You Were Looking For!

Speaking of looking, let’s look at the morning pressures: 30.00/29.88/29.88 for gradients of 0.12 and 0.00. That screams “corridor and near east” to me, and should do the same to you. We do have a trough passing overhead now and another scheduled for later as well as some instability along the Cascade Crest. This isn’t a 100% ideal setup, but it’s enough. Expect 21-24 this morning from Viento to Swell with 17-20 at Stevenson, Hood River, and Mosier with teens to the east. Afternoon wind drops to gusty 17-20 at Swell and, holds at Stevenson, Viento, and Mosier, and rises to 22-25 from Lyle to Rufus. If the atmosphere can stay stable enough, mid-afternoon wind will rise to 24-27 (but probably be gusty) between Lyle and Arlington with 20-23 at Threemile. If thunderstorms materialize, all bets are off, and you should definitely get off the water so you don’t get struck by lightning! River flow over the last 24 hours was 110-179kcfs, river temp is 66.7F, and high temp forecast is 73F for Hood River (78F for Arlington) with high and mid clouds all day.

Saturday starts with a CGW2 swap meet (is your membership current? If not, renew!) at Lot 1 in Hood River. Westerlies will be 21-24 from Viento to Mosier (17-20 in Hood River) to start the day. The wind holds for a few hours, and then shifts a bit as the metro area clears. For the afternoon, we’ll have gusty 18-22 at Swell with 21-24 everywhere else between Stevenson and Doug’s. The eastern Gorge, Avery to Arlington, fills in late with 22-25. High temp: 80F for Hood River and 86F for Arlington under clear sky.

EURO ENSEMBLE GORGE WIND FORECAST FOR THE NEXT WEEK

Ridging, high pressure, starts to build on Sunday. With clear sky forecast for the metro area, we’ll be relying on temp gradients to support our cause. As of now, we’re looking at 17-20 with the potential for a bit more if offshore high pressure decides to help us out. Similar conditions are forecast on Monday. Hot, hot weather is forecast on Tuesday. There’s a lot of uncertainty in the forecast. That said, if an approaching weak system pushes cool air into the west side early enough, we’ll see a late-day blast. This usually doesn’t work out in our favor, but maybe this time is the time.

On Wednesday we have “The Cooldown You Were Looking For”: strong offshore high pressure, clouds on the west side, hot, hot, hot weather in the desert (103 for Pendleton). All signs point to “nuking” for Wednesday. My schedule isn’t clear, but it’s close enough. If you like strong wind and can shift things around, that’s the day to aim for according to the ensembles. All righty. That’s it for now. Have a safe 4th of July!

Also, if you’re out and about between Odell and Hood River today, be kind to the runners on the 48th annual Kollas Cranmer run.

GLENWOOD

Let’s check in with Glenwood. It was 48 degrees there this morning which was about how cold I felt when I woke up this morning. Folks in Glenwood must have snuck into my bedroom last night and filled it with cold air. Thank you, Glenwood people. I slept great!

FRIDAY’S GORGE WEATHER FORECAST

Friday’s weather looks pretty much perfect as far as I’m concerned. I hope you like it too! We’ll have high clouds this morning and a combo of mid and high clouds this afternoon. This keeps temps down: low 70s in the west, upper 70s in The Dalles, and low 80s out where the watermelons grow. Hopefully someone out there is growing giant watermelons too! West wind will be 20-25mph between Viento and Mosier all day with 20-25 near Stevenson in the afternoon. East of Mosier, expect building wind all day; Lyle to Arlington eventually sees wind in the 20-30mph range. Up in the hills, you’ll have westerlies at 10-20mph. Heading to a fireworks show tonight? You’ll want a hoodie or jacket. One more thing to note: the passing trough that’s creating all these clouds might just have enough instability and moisture for a few showers today along and just east of the Cascade Crest and maybe also in the far western Gorge…

SATURDAY’S GORGE WEATHER FORECAST

Those high clouds leave tonight – they don’t like fireworks and will be scared away. Saturday starts with a few low clouds on the west side and sunshine to the east. Temps should be in the low 50s. By afternoon, we all have blue sky. Temps: 80 to the west, 86 in The Dalles, and 89 out where the watermelons grow. West wind will be 20-25mph all day from Stevenson to Mosier with 15-20 between Lyle and The Dalles and 15mph from Avery to the Arlington Triangle, where Triangle Man, the subject of an old song, lives. On no wait. That was “Particle Man”.

EXTENDED GORGE WEATHER FORECAST

A warming trend shows up on Sunday and sticks around into at least Tuesday. Expect sunshine all three days. Temps in The Dalles rise to 92 on Sunday, 99 on Monday, and as high as 102 on Tuesday. Temps are forecast to plummet on Tuesday (probably) which leads to super-strong wind and super-duper fire danger. Safe travels. -TATAS
