Gorge Wind Forecast

While there’s not much happening in Hood River to start the day, there’s plenty of wind to the west and east. Gradients started the day at .08 and .08, and when the air warms, the wind will really get going. The western Gorge may underperform this afternoon, so keep your eyes on the east. Morning wind will be 20-23 from Viento to Swell with single digits to teens everywhere else. Late morning westerlies pick up to 24-27 from Stevenson to Doug’s with 28-32 east of The Dalles. That 28-32 area could cover the Rowena stretch too; it’s just not a sure thing. Clouds move in to the western Gorge in the afternoon as a front approaches. We may see the wind drop in response. High temp: 65. River flow: 99,300 cfs. River temp: 61.

Offshore high pressure holds down the fort on Saturday. Westerlies continues. Early wind will be 21-24 from Viento to Arlington (with less near Hood River and Lyle). Afternoon wind backs off in the far eastern Gorge (down to 10 or so) and holds at 22-25 from Stevenson to The Dalles, maybe Rufus too. High temp: 62.

Sunday looks like 15-18 or so, maybe a touch more, all through the Gorge. Complicating this will be rain showers moving in from the NNW late morning and sticking around through the evening. High temp: 60. It’s looking like westerlies of some sort will stick around for at least Monday. Strong easterlies are forecast late next week. But we’ll see how that unfolds when we get there, right?
