Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The resorts picked up about half a foot of snow during the day on Thursday. While we’ll see a little snow Friday morning, we’re mostly going to see rain for the next 6 days. Lots of rain, potentially. Don’t let that dissuade you. Fully-transformed (granular) wet snow is super consistent and fun. Let’s hope we get there quickly!
Friday starts out cloudy with light snow. The p-type starts to change mid-morning and will be all rain, all the time, by early afternoon. The snow level starts around 4000′ and rises to 8500′. About 0.7” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day. That’s maybe a couple inches of snow before the switch to rain. Overnight, models currently call for about 1.6” rain. Thankfully, we’ll have SW wind, not W or NW, so orographic enhancement should be minimal. Wind: SSW 15-20 in the morning, SW 20-25 in the afternoon, and SW 15-20 overnight.
Saturday looks rainy, but probably less rainy. Of note: temps at 5000′ will rise to +5 or +6C – 40-42F. The snow level will be 8000′ for the 24 hour period. As of right now, 0.4” rain is forecast during the day and 0.2” rain overnight. Wind: SW 10-20 in the morning, SW 15-25 in the afternoon, and SW 25-40 overnight. Sunday sees the snow level rise from 8000′ to 9500′. About 0.8” rain is forecast during the day. Overnight: dry and very warm – approaching 10C or 50F. Wind: SW 25-40 in the morning, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and SW 20-30 overnight.
Models had previously called for dry weather for at least Monday and Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. Not now. Now we have all sorts of ideas about what will happen for the first couple days of the week. The atmospheric river causing all the rain will likely move north for a bit, but it’s unclear when it will return. Almost certainly by Tuesday morning. Total precip from Friday morning until Sunday night is somewhere between 1.75” and 3.5” depending on which model you prefer.

Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information.
