Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Mt. Hood is looking at snowfall Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, making Saturday the day to be on the hill this weekend. Warmer weather on Sunday leads into mixed precip Sunday night, clouds Monday, and rain transitioning to a downpour as Monday night becomes Tuesday.
Friday’s details: a cold front arriving mid-afternoon will drop temps and bring snowfall to Mt. Hood. The snow level will be 9000′ this morning, 5000′ when the precip hits, and down to 1500′ after midnight. We’ll see about 0.2” water value (WV) by 4pm followed by 0.5” WV overnight. That’ll give us 1-2” of dense snow this afternoon and 5-6” of increasingly light and fluffy snow tonight. Wind will be SW 30ish (higher above treeline) all day and W 25 overnight.
Saturday sees snow flurries under cloudy sky during the day followed by a round of light mixed precip overnight. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 5000′ in the afternoon, 4000′ when the precip hits, and 5500′-6000′ overnight. We’ll see a trace of new snow during the day. Overnight, 0.1” to 0.2” falls as either very wet snow or snow-rain mix, for no significant accumulation at 5000′. Wind Saturday will be W 25 early and SW 15-20 in the afternoon and evening.
Temps stay relatively warm on Sunday before briefly dropping Sunday night. Light mist will fall during the day and mixed precip arrives overnight. The snow level will be 5500′ early, max 7500′ in the afternoon, 5500′ around 10pm, and 3500′ after midnight. A trace of mist/rain will fall during the day, along with a high probability of fog. About 0.3” WV falls overnight, for up to 1-2” of wet snow. Wind will be SW 15-20 early, SW 25-30 in the afternoon, and WSW 30 after midnight.
Monday may start off dry or with flurries, but we’ll see rain move in around 4pm. 1.5” or so falls overnight. The current forecast for the 24 hour period known as “Tuesday” contains up to 4” of rain with a snow level of 9000′.

Road and Mountain Biking
Stay out of Post – it’s too muddy and too freeze-thawy. Even if you have a fat bike. You’re damaging delicate trails and undoing the hard work of many, many volunteers. The Power Station has a really wonderful virtual bike setup. I know it’s not the same, but it’s better than damaging the dirt.
