Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Cool weather sticks around through Monday. This gives you many chances to get up and ride the slopes before we’re back to spring skiing starting next Tuesday. There’s quite a bit of range in the forecast for temps at 5000′ starting Tuesday, but all the available range is well over 0C at 5000′ – too warm for snow. Luckily, it’ll be dry for a while.
A couple inches of snow fell on Thursday, and a trace more is forecast Friday night. That should give us at least some packed powder on Friday atop a hard granular surface. Friday starts with some high clouds and turns sunny in the afternoon with low clouds up to 6000′ or so. The free air freezing level will be 2000′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ after midnight. Wind: NW 25-35 in the morning, WNW 30-35 in the afternoon, and W 35 overnight. That’s almost certainly enough wind to shut down the higher lifts at Meadows and Timberline. Nordic: Teacup will be groomed on Friday, but Meadows won’t be groomed until the weekend.
Saturday starts clear above 4000′ and quickly adds light snowfall. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ after midnight. Models call for 0.2” to 0.5” water equivalent during the day for 2-5” new snow. I’d guess the lower end of that. Overnight, up to an inch more snow is forecast. Wind: W 35 in the morning, WNW 25-35 midday, W 25 in the evening, and W 20 after midnight. Once again, that’s enough wind to (probably) keep the highest lifts from opening.
Sunday starts with light snow and turns clear. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ overnight. About 0.1” WE is forecast. That’s about an inch of new snow. Wind: W 20 in the morning, W 10 in the afternoon, and SW 5-10 after midnight. Clear sky and warming weather is forecast by Monday along with light SW wind. Temps should rise into the mid 30’s by the afternoon. After Monday: warm and sunny for several days. See ya up there!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Some of you had a bit of a bonus session at the Hatch on Thursday. Many of you will be headed to Rufus (or even the Hatch) on Friday. Saturday also looks good enough. Sunday will be lighter, and Monday looks like a rest day. Friday sees offshore high pressure combine with low pressure in Idaho and another open low moving across the Cascades in the afternoon. We start with 14-17 from Stevenson to The Dalles with 20-23 form Avery to Arlington. Stevenson to The Dalles rises to 19-22 mid to late morning ahead of an incoming weak system. Early in the afternoon, say 1pm or so, the wind rises to 27-31 from Rowena to Arlington. Once the eastern Gorge gets going, the western Gorge will drop off to 10-13 or so. Seeking Indian food? If you’re at Rufus, you’ve got Amayah’s. If you’re in Hood River, Indian Bowl and Roll (the mini relation to Amayah’s) opens at the Hood River Waterfront on Friday. River flow Thursday was 101-170kcfs, river temp is 48.74F, and high temp forecast is 53F.
Saturday sees another weak weather system move through, but the offshore high and inland low stick around. Expect 26-30 from Avery to Arlington in the morning, a dip to 23-26 midday, and a return to 24-28 or a touch more in the afternoon. From Viento to The Dalles, we’ll have 5-10 to start, 15-18 midday, and 10-13 in the afternoon. High temp: 52F with rain in Hood River after 5pm and rain in Stevenson pretty much all day. Sunday starts with west 5-10 or less all through the Gorge. The wind rises to 10-13 all through the Gorge. Afternoon, once another system drags some rain into the west: less than 10mph to The Dalles and 20-23 from Avery to Arlington. High temp: 54F. Monday doesn’t look windy at all. Starting Tuesday, warmer weather returns and likely sets us up for light wind or light easterlies until the warmest temps shift back to the east side. Have fun, be safe. See you on the river!

The White Salmon – Bingen community-wide yard sale is April 19th and 20th. On April 16th at 6pm, Master Gardener Denis Carlson gives a talk at the Hood River Library on controlling rodents in your garden.
Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trailbuilding season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
