Gorge Wind Forecast

Fishing weather continues this morning and all day Saturday. Windsport weather returns for one day on Sunday, maybe two days. Friday’s deets: easterlies at 10-15 near Rooster and 20-25 near Stevenson this morning. Easterlies fade and go calm by midday. After 2pm, we’ll have very light westerlies from Stevenson to Well’s Island.

Saturday starts with W 7-10 from Stevenson to Swell. The wind will probably go calm midday and return to light westerlies in the evening from Stevenson to Hood River. Sunday starts with 16-19 from Viento to Hood River. Afternoon wind picks up to gusty 23-27 from Stevenson to Rufus. Monday’s forecast is currently 17-20 from Stevenson to Hood River.

Coast (north/central/south, waves. Direction north unless otherwise noted. Swell forecast from NWS.) Friday: LTN/10-15/25-30, W swell 6′ at 12 seconds. Saturday: NW10-15/10-15/20-25, W 7′ @ 15. Sunday: LTW/NW10-15/25-30, W 6′ @ 12. Jones Friday: 15-18. Saturday: 15-18. Sunday: 5-8. Sauvie’s Friday: calm. Saturday: 12-15. Sunday: 11-14.  

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky with haze is the forecast for the next three days. Friday’s temps start near 50 and end near 80. Light and variable wind. No rainbows. Saturday starts with temps in the low 50’s and maxes out near 80. Light and variable wind. No rainbows. Sunday looks a little cooler but still sunny. Temps will be near 50 early and in the mid 70’s later. Moderate to strong westerlies. No rainbows. Next chance of rain? Middle of next week.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Cycling

9/30: Hood River County lands have reopened. 0.5” rain fell on Friday, 9/25 in Hood River. Mt. Hood National Forest: some areas have reopened. Expect many downed trees. Check their website for details. Syncline/Coyote Wall: reopened. Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood and other SDS/Kreps lands have all reopened.

Local Events

Weekly events: there are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride Thursday nights at 5:30pm. The small boat group has a friendly and distanced paddle on, I believe, Thursday nights. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Columbia High School in White Salmon at 6pm on Wednesday nights. That’s pretty much it for outdoor sports. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Wednesday evening at 6pm at 12th and May.  

Current Closures (may not be complete)

Mt. Hood National Forest closures have decreased. Gifford Pinchot: check on their website – closure area has decreased. Kreps, SDS, and other private timberlands have mostly reopened. Completeish list here.
