Gorge Wind Forecast
We keep talking about the fact that it’s fall, and the wind forecast most certainly agrees. We’ll have gusty light/moderate westerlies for Friday and Saturday followed by a stronger, wintry-feeling day on Sunday. You’ll be heading out east for the best of that one.
A weak front offshore today (it’s Friday) is the driver for some lackluster afternoon wind. It might just be enough to get you out on your foil contraption. Morning wind will be variable and westerly, for the most part. By late morning, the wind rises to gusty 10-14 from Stevenson to Hood River with light westerlies to the east. models suggest we’ll get an afternoon session at gusty 13-16 from Hood River (maybe Swell) to The Dalles with 5-10 in the west and light/variable wind to the east. River flow is 103kcfs, river temp is 63F, and high temp forecast is 61F.
Saturday sees a weak, brief ridge that’s quickly influenced by a strong front approaching from the NW. Westerlies start at 11-14 from Stevenson to Avery with 7-10 to the east. After 2pm, the wind rises to gusty 18-22 from The Dalles to Arlington and falls to 9-13 in the western Gorge. High temp: 60F.
We’ve been talking about Sunday’s potential for several days. A strong cold front blasts through early in the morning. This starts the day with gusty 20-26 from Viento to Arlington with 10mph at rainy Stevenson. There’s definitely some up-and-down predicted for the rest of the day, but the general picture is gusty 27-31 from The Dalles to Arlington with 11-14 in the western Gorge. High temp: 56F. Lingering moderate westerlies will be around on Monday with highs in the low 50’s.

Cycling
Please help the HRATS out: sign up to volunteer for the Post Canyon Enduro the weekend of the 15th. HRATS receives money from the event organizers, and that money goes towards building and repairing trails. SDS and Kreps lands have reopened. Washington DNR land is also open now. All other trails are open at this time. Motorized use is still not allowed in areas where it was closed due to fire season. In other news… thanks to last week’s rain, the dirt is nearly perfect in most places. More rain is coming, so get ready for more brown pow!
