Friday: brown pow in upper post, Pride celebration, chance of thunderstorms…

Thank you for using this forecast. I offer it freely so you can have more fun and plan your life. It does take significant time and energy to produce. If you find yourself using it often, or if you feel your life is more awesome because of my work, please make a donation. You can…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore low pressure continues to negative impact wind strength and steadiness over the next three days. Models are hinting at a return to stronger westerlies for at least a few days next week. Until then… light to moderate wind with afternoon showers.

Friday starts off nearly calm in many areas – not calm enough for glassy water skiing, but calm enough for spraying and road biking and fly fishing. Westerlies hold in the 0-10 range for the western Gorge most of the day with 10-13 east of The Dalles. Late in the day, after 5pm or so, the wind picks up to 12-15 from Stevenson to Hood River. River flow is 152kcfs and temp is 64 degrees.

Low pressure over the coast and inland areas on Saturday limit the wind speeds again. Afternoon thunder showers won’t help the situation! Saturday starts with west wind at 7-10 all the way through the Forge. 7-10 holds in the east. Stevenson to The Dalles picks up to 11-14 in the afternoon. That’s assuming thunderstorms don’t kick in, which they’re likely to do. All bets are off if cumulonimbus enters the picture.

Sunday’s wind speeds look a bit stronger than Saturday. Then again, models have been bouncing around all over the place. Morning westerlies look like 12-15 from Stevenson to The Dalles with 7-10 east of there. Afternoon wind looks likely to pick up to 15-18 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Tentative forecast for the start of next week, Monday and Tuesday, is 25-29.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified). Friday: LTW/LTW/LTN, NW swell 3′ at 7 seconds. Saturday: NW5/LTNW/N10-15, NW 3′ @ 7. Sunday: NW10/NW10/N20-25, NW 3′ @ 7. Jones Friday: 8-11. Saturday: 18-22. Sunday: 21-24. Sauvie’s Friday: nope. Saturday: 7-10. Sunday: 11-14.

Road and Mountain Biking

Post Canyon yesterday had brown pow from Family Man upwards! All local trails are snow-free. The only unconfirmed trail I have right now is Huffman Peak. Whoopdee is closed for logging, but Ronnoc trail and the climb out are open. Red Hill Road is supposedly closed for logging. Ride at your own risk. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill!

Upcoming Events
