Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Friday morning started off rainy on the mountain, but the precipitation switched to snow in time for the early morning snow reports. Snow continues to fall on Friday and Saturday before a return to rain on Saturday night. Sunday starts rainy and then brings a period of heavy snowfall.
For Friday, expect temps to drop during the day, bettering the snow quality. A brief period of partly cloudy and dry weather in the afternoon gives way to clouds and snow after midnight. The snow level will be 5000′ early and 3500′ from mid-afternoon on. Precip: 0.3” water value (WV) during the day, for 2-3” of wet snow. A trace falls overnight. Wind: SW 20 early, WSW 30 in the afternoon, and SW 15 overnight.
Saturday looks snowy until midnight. The snow level will be 3500′ in the morning, 4500′ at peak heating, 3500′ in the evening, and 6500′ after midnight. About 0.4” WV falls during the day, for 4” of new snow. 1.0” rain falls after midnight. Wind: SW 15 early, SW 30+ through the evening, SW 40+ around midnight, and WSW 45 after midnight.
Sunday starts with a downpour and switches to heavy snow before clearing overnight. The snow level will be 6000′ early and 4000′ after 10am or so. About 0.7” to 1.0” rain falls before the switch. Then we’ll see 0.3” to 0.7” WV that falls as snow, for 3-6” of new. Another 0.1” WV falls overnight, for just another inch. Wind will be WSW 45 early, WSW 25 mid-morning, and W 25-30 in the afternoon. The wind backs off to NW 10 as the sky clears overnight.
Gorge Wind
A series of low pressure systems travels up the west coast over the next few days. Wind response: bouncing back and forth between easterlies and westerlies. Friday starts with light easterlies in the west and light westerlies in the east. Around noon, the wind will turn to westerly: gusty 10-13 in the west and gusty 22-27 from The Dalles eastward. The wind will back off after 5pm.
Saturday starts with E 10-15 near Rooster and E 5-10 near Stevenson. Easterlies pick up to 15-20 midday and turn westerly after 2pm: busty 22-28 from Stevenson to Arlington for just a few hours. Sunday starts with light easterlies and quickly turns west. 7-10mph in the west and 18-22 from The Dalles to Arlington. That big Tuesday forecast we were looking at? The GFS is backing off on the strength and steadiness. The Euro still holds promise of a good day.

Trails that are snow-free: Syncline, Hospital Hill, Post below Bad Motor Scooter, Lower Whoopdee (upper half is still muddy, so maybe don’t?), Columbia Hills.
