Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s a warm and windy morning on the slopes of Mt. Hood, but the forecast has improved over the last 24 hours. A narrow band of heavy precipitation will hang over western WA and OR today. This system was initially forecast to progress far enough east to drench Mt. Hood today. Now it looks like it will stay far enough west that impacts will be limited. After this system moves out of the area tonight, the snow level will drop back below 5000′. A foot or so of snow will fall in the following 48 hours.

For Friday, expect a relatively warm and windy, but mostly dry, day on the mountain. Light rain returns in the evening. The snow level will be 7500′ early, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 4500′ after midnight. Just a trace of rain will fall during the day, unless something changes. About 0.2” water value (WV) falls overnight as mixed precip that switches to snow. Wind above tree line will be SW 60-70 through Saturday morning. It’ll be about half that below tree line.

Saturday starts out snowy and stays that way. The snow level will be 4500′ in the morning and will slowly fall to 2000′. About 0.6” WV is forecast during the day, for 6-7” of new snow. Another 0.1” WV is forecast overnight, for just another niche. Wind will be SW 65 above treeline early (half that below), and will decrease4 to W 15 in the afternoon and light-and-variable overnight.

Sunday brings light snowfall all day and all night. The snow level will be 2000′ early and will fall to 1500′ as a low pressure system to the south pulls in cold air from the north. About 0.1” WV falls before sunset, for an inch of new. Another 0.3” falls overnight, for 3-4” of fluffy powder. Wind will be light-and-variable early, NE 15 in the afternoon, and W 15 overnight. Light snowfall tapers off on Monday with the snow level around 1500′. After that… a couple days of dry weather and then a likely return of more active weather.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Variable wind sticks around on Friday with westerlies in the west and a slow turn to westerlies in the east. Winds will be in the 10-15 range for the most part. Saturday starts out calm. The wind picks up to W 7-11 through the whole Gorge, with the possible exception of “near Hood River”. Sunday starts out calm. The wind picks up to E 10-15 midday and backs off to light easterly in the afternoon.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Looks like it’s going to be a cloudy one to end the week. Drizzle may pick up midday, but most likely it will stay to the west. Temps will be in the low to mid 50’s. Light and variable wind. 10% chance of rainbows. Saturday looks rainy in the morning with showers in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 40’s all day. Calm wind early turns light westerly. 88% chance of rainbows. Sunday looks cloudy with rain after noon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 40’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Looking for more humor in your weather? Obscenities? Road and Mountain Biking

All the rain over the last day has put all the trails in “too muddy to ride” zone. Please, please don’t, or you’ll do permanent damage. Especially vulnerable are those trails that were frozen when the rain arrived; the soil structure is all blown apart, and the tread will be fragile. If you ride it, you will gouge deep ruts that may never recover. Lots of other fun things to do today!

Upcoming Events

the Kickstand Coffee donut and coffee run is this morning at 7am. There’s a $5-$10 “donation” yoga class at Samadhi in White Salmon this evening at 4pm. Tomorrow is, in theory, the Nordic Kickoff Party at Mt. Hood Meadows. It’s also the summer solstice, with a free solstice celebration at TreeSong Nature Awareness and Retreat Center in Washougal. You can volunteer at the Rebuild-it Center tomorrow from 9 to 1pm.
