Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s snowing lightly on Mt. Hood this morning, and that will continue all day. The next few days look mostly clear on the mountain with periods of partly cloudy sky. Next chance for significant precipitation is on Wednesday and Thursday, but that currently looks like it’ll fall as rain. Stay tuned!

For Friday, expect light snowfall under cloudy sky. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning, slowly climbing to 4000′ overnight. About 1” of snow will fall during the day with another 1” tonight. Wind will be E 15-20 during the day and NW 15 overnight.

Saturday starts off partly to mostly cloudy and turns clear in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 4000′ early, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 500′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15 in the morning, NW 25 in the afternoon, and NW 15 overnight.

Sunday looks sunny. The free air freezing level will be 500′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15 in the morning and W 10 in the afternoon and evening. Monday looks partly cloudy to start and clear in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 2000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon and evening. Light W/NW wind.

As I said before, it looks like a powerful system will move in from the SW on Thursday. We’ll see mixed rain and snow ahead of it on Wednesday and heavy rain and strong wind late Thursday. The exact path and outcome could change between now and then, but there’s agreement between the GFS and ECMWF on the broad details.

Random Morning Thoughts

Part of being a human is having emotions and expressing them. That second part is important. Nobody’s really sure what an emotion is, but I think it’s some sort of energetic manifestation of experience. I believe that energy can build up and needs to be released, either by outright expression or simply being felt.

This can look like different things for different people, but most of us can sense when “stuff” is building up. We might feel stressed. We might feel anxious, jittery, or depressed. We might feel like we want to cry, scream, run or maybe even freeze. If we notice these things, it’s important to do something about it.

Sometimes we feel like we can’t do anything. In that case, really sitting with the sense that something needs to happen can bring about a shift. Take some time to notice the thing within you that feels like it needs out. Really study it experientially; don’t think about it – feel it. Notice what needs to happen. And do that thing (unless it involves hurting you or others – in that case, stay with it longer and look for something deeper and wiser). May you be connected with your inner wisdom. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s rained under 1/10” last night, which isn’t enough to make things muddy but is enough to make things slick. Maybe try some gravel grinding instead today. Moving on, the HRATS have a work party meeting at Family Man at 9:30am on Saturday. The movie Ciclovida plays on Friday night at Rockford Grange. There’s another HRATS work party on the 24th.

Upcoming Events

Opportunities to give back: Doug’s Beach work party at 9am on 3/17. Post Canyon work party at 9:30am (meet at Family Man) on 3/17. Hatchery work party at 9am on 3/24. Mitchell Ridge work party at 9:30am on 3/24 (meet at the bottom of Mitchell Ridge – please carpool). The Hood River Mountain Film Festival runs today through Sunday at Andrew’s.
