Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey shredders! Intermittent snow is in the cards this week before we head into another stretch of dry, warmer weather starting next Friday (or so). The snow coming in this week won’t be the fluffiest, but models are increasingly sure it will stay snow at 5000′ and above.
Monday night brings some snow to the slopes. The snow level will be around 3500′. Models call for 0.3” to 0.5” water equivalent (WE), or 2-4” heavy snow. Wind: W 20 overnight becoming WNW 25-30 in the morning. Light snowfall is in the cards on Tuesday thanks to orographics. We’ll probably have some sun mixed in. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Models call for 0.2” to 0.3” WE for 2-3” new snow. A trace is forecast overnight. Wind: WNW 25-30 in the morning, W 20 in the afternoon, and SW 15-30 overnight.
A stronger, wetter system swings through on Wednesday. This one looks just cool enough to stay snow at 5000′, but don’t be surprised if it’s 1) wet snow and 2) it’s rain below 4000′. About 0.4” to 0.8” WE (models have some range) is forecast. That’s 3-7” wet snow. Overnight: 0.1” WE for an inch more. Wind: SW 15-30 early, SW 30-45 midday, and SW 15-30 overnight. Light snow, a few inches, continues on Thursday with the snow level around 3000′ for most of the day. A few more inches of new snow are possible overnight. Friday looks dry and cloudy and relatively cool to start. The afternoon looks clear and cool with light wind. Sunny, warmer weather is forecast for the weekend. See ya on the snow for some turns!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Light to moderate westerlies are in the cards for the next several days. Tuesday’s your best chance to get on the river, and it’s looking marginal. High pressure builds inland over the weekend and turns the wind light offshore. But hey, it’ll be sunnier! For Tuesday, the day starts with 10-13 from Stevenson to Doug’s with 18-21 from Avery to Arlington. Afternoon wind rises to 22-25 (the equivalent of 15-18 at Swell) from Rowena to Boardman, then drops to 10-13 from Lyle to Doug’s and holds at 22-25 out east. Areas west of Lyle fall to 10ish in the afternoon. River flow Monday was 115-181kcfs, river temp is 46.76F, and high temp forecast is 54F.
Wednesday starts with E 20-25 at Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson. It’ll also be raining. The wind drops to “light” at Stevenson midday and turns to W 10-13 at Iwash. After 2pm or so, Stevenson to Doug’s rises to W 7-10, and Avery to Arlington picks up to W 11-14. High temp: 51F with lots of rain. Thursday also looks rainy. The day starts with E 10 at Iwash and Stevenson. Afternoon wind turns westerly with 5-10 from Stevenson to Doug’s and 11-14 from Avery to Arlington. High temp: 53F.

Light westerlies in the afternoon. 99% chance of rainbows. Thursday will be cloudy early, then rainy, then showery overnight. Temps start in the upper 03s and rise to the low 50s. Calm wind early. The tentative opening date for the Amayah’s cart in Hood River is April 1st. The White Salmon – Bingen community-wide yard sale is April 19th and 20th. On April 16th at 6pm, Master Gardener Denis Carlson gives a talk at the Hood River Library on controlling rodents in your garden.
Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
We have reports of brown pow in Post Canyon to 8-Track. Whoopdee, Hospital, and Syncline are also good for riding right now per Strava (the app, not my cat). Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing (or sunny) when you go to ride; freeze-thaw trails are susceptible to permanent damage. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Intermittent light snow is forecast for much of this week. Starting Friday, there’s some disagreement among the models. Let’s start with Monday: clear sky Monday morning gives way to light snow. The snow level will be between 2500′ and 3000′ for the 24 hour period. About 0.2” water equivalent (WE) is forecast for the day, for a couple inches of new snow. Models have 0.2” to 0.4” WE overnight for 2-4” additional snow at 5000′. Wind: W 20 in the morning, W 30 in the afternoon, and W 25 overnight.
Tuesday will be cloudy with a few flurries to start, clear in the afternoon, and cloudy overnight with a few flurries. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Wind: W 25 in the morning, W 20 in the afternoon, and SW 15-25 overnight.
Heavier snow, or perhaps snain, is forecast on Wednesday. Temps at 850mb (~5000′) rise to +1C or +2C, which is right on the edge for snow. Best guess: wet snow at 5000′. The snow level will be 4000′ early, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. About 0.6” WE is forecast during the day, for 4-7” new snow depending on elevation and snow density. Overnight: dry and partly cloudy. Wind: SW 15-25 early, SW 25-40 midday, SW 20-30 in the evening, and SW 10-15 overnight. Light snow is forecast again on Thursday. Models agreement falls apart on Friday. We could see light snow showers Friday and Saturday, or we could see sunshine. Have a great week on the slopes!

Offshore high pressure keeps the west wind going for the next couple of days. For Monday,. We start with 5-10 west of The Dalles and 18-22 from Avery to Arlington. Afternoon wind falls to 14-17 out east and rises to 11-14 from Stevenson to Doug’s. Expect rain west of Mosier or Lyle for much of the day. River flow Sunday was 106-152kcfs, river temp is 46.58F, and high temp forecast is 53F.
Tuesday starts with 7-10 west of The Dalles and 15-18 est of The Dalles. Afternoon wind rises to 11-14 in the west and 20-23 from Avery to Arlington. Expect rain west of Home Valley all day. High temp: 54F. East wind returns on Wednesday as a deep low pressure system twirls offshore. The wind will be 20-25 at both Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson through late morning or early afternoon. The wind then turns light/variable as a front swings through. The day will be quite rainy. High temp: 50F.
