Good morning! It’s still windy in the Gorge. Very windy. It’s blowing 30+ at Stevenson and it looks super windy on the Rooster Cam. Easterlies will slowly fade today before dying out completely tomorrow. At this point, it looks like we dodged the “r” word on the mountain with this system, with the exception of…
Meet your forecaster: Temira
For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.
This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.
There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.
Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

At this point, it looks like we dodged the “r” word on the mountain with this system, with the exception of a few light sprinkles to 6000’ last night, which don’t appear to have affected the snow quality. I wouldn’t call it powder, but I would call it good, clean, buttery-smooth fun. Today looks dry, with south winds at 15-25 switching to southwest at 15-25 later. The snow level today will slowly fall to around 4000’ during the day and 3000’ overnight.
Tomorrow looks snowy, with snow levels around 3000’ or less all day. Precipitation will start between 4am and 7am, continuing throughout the day, with the heaviest snow falling before 10am. Winds will be out of the southwest at 15-25 building to west-southwest at 25-35 by 4pm. Total precipitation between 4am Sunday and 4am Monday will be 1-1.5” of water value, or 10-14” of snow.
Snow continues Monday, with snow levels during the day at 2000-3000’. Light to moderate snow falls during the day, increasing around midday and heaviest overnight. Snow levels overnight rise to 5500-6000’. Winds on Monday will be out of the west at 15-25mph increasing to southwest 25-35 in the afternoon. Total precipitation Monday 4am to Tuesday 4am will be 1-1.5” of water value, so, with the warmer temperatures, 8-12” of new snow.
Tuesday sees snow levels fall rapidly from 6000’ to 2000’. Winds will be out of the west at 30-40 in the morning, quickly decreasing to 10-20mph out of the west-northwest. Total water value from 4am Tuesday to 4am Wednesday will be less than .25”, for 2-3” of new snow at the most.
That concludes your weather forecast for today. Merry Christmas, and have a great day today!
