GORGE WIND FORECAST

today’s gorge wind forecast
Hi friends! Another great day was had on the river yesterday, and today’s Gorge wind forecast contains more of the same. Current at Rufus was running around 228kcfs. This was doable for paddling. Reports had the Blalock-Arlington stretch as easy paddling. Outside of paddling, the swell in the Maryhill and Arlington stretch of river was big, and people looked happy! Good times for that zone, and we’ll have more opportunities out there over the next few days.
Thursday’s early pressures were 30.19/30.11/30.05 for gradients of 0.08/0.06. A system approaches the coast this afternoon and keeps clouds going on the west side. Accompanying this will be upper-level wind at NW 20mph, not as much as yesterday, but still decent support. Early wind was running 13-16mph pretty much everywhere between Viento and Arlington with 10mph at Stevenson thanks to heavy cloud cover. By 11am, we’ll see Stevenson to Arlington rise to 20-23mph or so with Swell likely to be a few mph less, perhaps 17-20. Early in the afternoon, before the incoming system does too much disruption on the west side, we’ll have 20-23 from Stevenson to Hood River, 26-29 from Mosier to Rufus, and 23-26 at Arlington. Mid-afternoon sees the strongest wind shift east: between Stevenson and Mosier, westerlies dip to 17-20mph. Between Lyle and Arlington, they rise to 28-32mph. River flow over the last 24 hours was 185-241kcfs, river temp is 56.8F, and high temp forecast is 61F for Hood River and 64F for Arlington.

tomorrow’s gorge wind forecast
Inland troughing and extensive cloud cover on Friday combine for (finally) a rest day. The day starts nearly calm, or perhaps with westerlies at 5-10mph. Peak wind will be 11-14mph in the afternoon between Rowena and Arlington with 7-10mph west of Rowena. High temp: 65F for Hood River and 69F for Arlington.
extended Gorge wind forecast

A system moves through on Saturday morning, drops a bit of rain, and allows high pressure to rebuild offshore late in the afternoon. Instability joins the picture and disrupts the wind field until early/mid afternoon. After that, elevated wind rises to WNW 35kts, hopefully before dark, and drives wind speeds upward. Expect a light start to the day, less than 10mph all through the Gorge. Midday wind rises to gusty 15-18 from Stevenson to Hood River, 20-24 from Lyle to Rufus, and 14-17 at Arlington. Afternoon wind, in response to the building high pressure, rises to gusty 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier with 28-32 from Lyle to Arlington and 23-26mph at Threemile. Strong wind persists into the evening with the strongest pressure gradient happening for the Executive Session.
The 00Z run today has knocked down wind speeds for Sunday and pushed the wind farther east. You’ll recall that yesterday we had dreams of a Hatch super-nuker? Now we’re looking at a strong to very strong day farther east; while the GFS deterministic has us at 27-31 (rather than yesterday’s 30-40), the Euro ensembles maintain the possibility of 30-35 focused between Lyle (or maybe Avery) and Threemile or Boardman. Monday’s forecast is currently 22-25, but there’s a lot of range in the possibilities. Westerlies of some sort look probable on Tuesday, but again, the range is vast. Have a great day today. See you on the Nch’i Wana!

HYPERLOCAL AND INTERMITTENTLY HYSTERICAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE
THE DALLES, HOOD RIVER, WHITE SALMON, TROUT LAKE, STEVENSON, CASCADE LOCKS, PARKDALE, ODELL, HUSUM, BZ, MILL A, WILLARD, GOLDENDALE, RUFUS, ARLINGTON, boardman

Good morning, neighbors! Perfectly reasonable spring weather continues for the next couple of weeks. Temps generally stay below 70 degrees all the way through next week. After that: 20 degrees of uncertainty each day, but nearly zero hint of temps reaching 90 or some other unpleasant level (remember that TATAS has deemed 65-75 degreees as the “pleasant” zone). Our best chance of measurable rain is Saturday, and much of that chance is due to instability-driven showers. If you yourself are feeling unstable, take a long shower. It’ll probably help.
GLENWOOD
Saying hello to Glenwood this morning, we see readings in the area of 31-33F, yet another day where Glenwood has overachieved its neighbors in the Gorge near and far. Are you like Glenwood and consistently overachieving when compared to others? Is this stressing you out? It may be time to take a deep dive into understanding your motivation and creating more freedom and peace in your life. Just a thought. Take it or leave it.
THURSDAY’S GORGE WEATHER FORECAST
Thursday’s weather looks much like the last couple of days. Clouds increase today as a system approaches this afternoon – we’ll have low clouds maybe to Rowena and high clouds all the way to Idaho. A bit of rain, like a trace of rain, is likely between 2pm and 5pm west of Mosier and in South Wasco County. West wind picks up (AGAIN) to 20-25mph west of Mosier and 25-30+ mph from Mosier to Arlington. Temps max out in the low 60s today, making it another great day for getting shit done outside without working up a really sweaty sweat. Want to get really sweaty? Put on a puffy coat – it’s too warm for down jackets today, but who am I to tell you how to dress. Actually, lemme tell you how to dress: whatever you wear, make sure it accentuates your buttocks. TATAS is a butt dude. Acturally, TATAS is a people dude. I don’t actually care what you wear, but I do care about you. Be well, okay?
FRIDAY’S GORGE WEATHER FORECAST
On Friday morning, low clouds extend to Rowena, and blue sky settles in to the east. Somewhere in the middle, you’ll have one of those colorful Gorge sunrises. Don’t forget to thank the sun for rising and also for not going supernova! We’ll have temps in the mid-40s and nearly calm wind to start the day. At the finish line, temps finish in the mid 65-69 range and westerlies rise to 5-15mph, strongest east of Rowena.
SATURDAY’S GORGE WEATHER FORECAST
A system swings through early Saturday and destabilizes things a bit. Breathe, slow down, and be on guard for hatred in your heart. Those are some of the best ways to prevent yourself from destabilizing like Saturday’s atmopshere. Our best shot at measurable rain comes here, but it’ll be spotty. We might even see a thunderstorm in the afternoon once clouds, which start the day completely covering the Gorge all the way out into the desert where the Bighorn Sheep roam freely, burn off. Wind starts light westerly, less than 10mph. Mid-afternoon, when this system clears our zone, westerlies rise to 20-25mph west of Lyle and 30mph, maybe more, east of Lyle. Morning temps will be in the upper 40s, and we’ll finish just shy of 20 degrees warmer: mid 60s.
BEYOND SATURDAY…
Another cool and breezy and partly cloudy day is in the cards on Sunday. Normal spring weather, cool with some clouds, continues well into next week. Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas: I just wanted to type that phrase because it makes me giggle every time. Know what it spells? I’ll let you figure it out! I didn’t really have anything to share. You know you’re supposed to be planting seeds so they can germinate in this cool weather / warm soil combo. I know this too, but lately I seem to be planting myself in the Nch’i Wana rather than planting seeds in the ground. Happy gardening. Safe travels. -TATAS
