Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s very very cold and very very windy on Mt. Hood today. The nuclear-force wind is coming out of the east, a direction that tends to shut down every lift at Timberline and almost all the lifts at Meadows. In addition, the last time I checked, the wind chill was -28 at the top of Mt. Hood Express. If you have some interest in heading up after reading that, you’ll find light snowfall this morning and partly cloudy to clear sky this afternoon. Temps will be in the single digits. East wind at 50mph all day. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
Moving on from that mess… Thursday looks clear and sunny. The free air freezing level will be sea level. Temps will be in the single digits early and the teens in the afternoon. East wind at 30mph early will have some impact on lifts, but the wind will back off to SE 10 in the afternoon.
Friday also looks sunny and clear. The free air freezing level will be at sea level, and temps on the mountain may be warmer than temps at your house. Expect mid to upper 20’s up on the hill. Wind on Friday will be a very reasonable NW 10 in the morning and SW 10 in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished
Weathery excitement returns on Saturday afternoon, lasting well into Sunday. Saturday starts off clear with the free air freezing level at the surface, sea level, your house, whatever you’d like to call it! Around midnight, the snow level will rise to around 6000′. We’ll see snow start up around 1pm. Unfortunately, the snow will likely transition to sleet or freezing rain and then rain by midnight. Before the transition, we’ll see .5”, for 3-4” of new snow. Then we’ll see an inch of rain or so by 4pm on Sunday, after which the precipitation will switch back to light snowfall, for a couple inches of new.
This is still a long ways out to be forecasting, so don’t get too attached to this prediction. That said, do get attached to the likelihood of a snow/freezing rain event in Portland on Saturday afternoon and the Gorge on Saturday evening. That may impact your decision to come to the mountain on Saturday, right?

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m uncertain how my life appears to outsiders. My life is definitely charmed on many levels, and for this I am filled with gratitude. On the other hand, like many of you, I have struggled for much of my life with emotional pain. Years of meditative practice have led me to believe that much of this pain is of my own making. I’ve also learned that equally delightful states of peace and happiness exist within me, and that these states can be cultivated, encouraged to arise more frequently.
Along this path, I’ve learned that one think I do to cause myself pain is to rush. I hurry to get to the next task, worrying that there isn’t enough time in the day. While this is often the case, I also frequently complete my tasks with time to spare.
When I have this free time, I scramble to find something to do. Rather than relaxing and enjoying the unexpected spaciousness over a slow cup of tea, I rush to cram in more activities, more achievements, maybe even starting something new, adding to my long-term stress load.
Maybe this endless scramble to do more resonates with you? You, like me, have probably trained your nervous system for constant motion. You’ve trained in a fear of stopping. Next time you notice you’re rushing, intentionally slow down, even for just a footstep or two. Notice your reaction.
Although you’ve trained yourself to feel like there’s never enough time, there’s probably more time than you think, if you only slow down to notice it. You’re awesome. Have an awesome day.
