Good morning!
Happy fashion show day! If you don’t have your tickets yet, you’re almost out of luck, since Cathy’s almost out of tickets. Be there, or miss out on the best dang party in the Gorge (except for the Hood River Snow Show next weekend, of course).
There’s something mildly disturbing about getting up in the dark and going to bed in the dark. It doesn’t matter that I get 8 hours of sleep and that I don’t waste any daylight. My mind just can’t get a grip on all the darkness. I guess that’s why I have to spend so much time in the snow. I have to be in super-bright conditions to make up for rising before sunrise.
Speaking of snow, NOAA is calling for 6-10” today. My suggestion is that you ski this afternoon, in the windy snowstorm, rather than heading up this morning. Give your friend Mother Nature a chance to drop a few inches of pow on the slopes, and then go get it after the crowds have left.
Tomorrow still looks good on the hill, with partly cloudy skies and a zillion super-stoked snow addicts. Sunday looks a little warm for my taste, with freezing levels up above the top of Mt. Hood Express. However, at this point, it looks like the bulk of rain will swing north of us, sparing us a disastrous sloppy day.
In other ski news, Mt. Baker opened yesterday, Crystal opened Wednesday and Skibowl (home of the world’s best nachos) opens tomorrow with limited operations. No word yet on whether the nachos are open for business.
On the wind front (ha ha ha, no pun intended), we’ll have westerlies in the desert late today. I think 24-28 is still reasonable after 2pm way out east. Given that flow will be due west, it’s worth looking at The Wall and Rufus before driving all the way to Arlington.
