Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
As of early this morning, it was both above freezing and snowing on Mt. Hood. Expect the snow level to dip a bit today, rise in the evening, and drop late tonight, giving us potential for rotating precip types. The most likely scenario, I think, is wet snow. The snow level will be 4000′ by 8am, 6000′ around 5pm, 5000′ and dropping by 8pm, and 2000′ by Thursday morning. We’ll see .1-.2” water value (WV) during the day, for an inch or so of wet snow. We’ll see another .3” WV tonight, for 2-3” of slightly less wet snow. Wind today will be SW 35 this morning, S 20 in the afternoon, SE 10 overnight, and SW 20 Thursday morning.
Thursday looks cloudy with on and off flurries during the day, followed by slightly steadier snow in the afternoon and evening. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ after midnight. We’ll see just a trace of snow during the day and a couple inches overnight, at best. Wind on Thursday will be SW 20 pretty much all day, turning to WSW 20-25 after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued
Friday looks mostly cloudy with light snowfall during the day and partly cloudy sky overnight. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 2500′ midday, and 1500′ after midnight. We’ll see an inch or two of new snow during the day. Wind will be WSW 25 all day, dropping to W 15 after midnight.
Saturday looks partly cloudy early and mostly clear in the afternoon, turning clear overnight. The free air freezing level will be 1500′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ after midnight. Wind on Saturday will be W 15 early and light and variable in the afternoon. Sunday looks clear, then cloudy, then snowy late in the evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast
With clouds and rain hanging around today, we’re not looking at much in the way of wind. Basically, the wind will be light and variable all day through the entire Gorge, getting windy in the eastern Gorge after 10pm, which really isn’t much help to you for wind sports. Thursday brings light west wind through 11am. After 1pm, expect gusty 7-11 from Stevenson to The Dalles and gusty 23-26 east of The Dalles. Friday currently looks calm in the western Gorge in the morning with 13-16 in the eastern Gorge early in the day. By the afternoon, we’ll see the wind pick up to gusty 20-23 east of The Dalles. The western Gorge will likely remain rainy and not-windy on Friday afternoon. River temp is 46 degrees and flow is 387kcfs at The Dalles.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m think about cross-cultural conversations this morning, or at least conversations between people with different viewpoints and/or patterns of behaviors. A phrase that often comes up in these (and other) situations is, “I can’t understand why you did that!” Along with that can come feelings of frustration, anger, helplessness, and confusion.
Saying something like that, or having such a thought cross your mind, is a sign that it’s time to do some exploration with that person. See if you can ask questions that will allow you to take their perspective. See if you can understand why they did “that”! That doesn’t mean you’ll like what you hear, but it might open some space to reduce your feelings of annoyance and anger.
I’m guessing this will come up today at the town halls with Greg Walden (11am in The Dalles and 3pm in Hood River). Town Halls across the country have become antagonistic, as frustrated constituents confront representatives with different views. My hope is that we here in the Gorge will speak with respect, use our signs well, and support the diversity of our community against Walden’s support of the immigration and refugee bans. We are awesome. Let’s make our community proud by behaving maturely today and opening conversations with people with different views. #somosuno

I got up from my computer to go look at the weather outside, and by the time I came back it was light and I had a delicious breakfast sandwich in my hand. Such is life. Light westerlies. 89% chance of rainbows. Friday looks showery in the morning and rainy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the low 50’s later. White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Given how much it rained overnight and how much it’s raining now, Post Canyon is too wet to ride. Syncline, drier, should be fine. Cows are out on Hospital Hill, so NO DOGS. No, really! Whoopdee is probably a bit too wet too, given the current weather. Sandy Ridge is open. Columbia Hills is open. Any reports from Nestor? In road biking news, it’s raining. That doesn’t sound all that fun, does it?
