4/14 Forecast

Good morning Gorge sports fanatics!

First off the ski report. This morning at Timberline, it’s 24 degrees with mostly clear skies, 1” of new snow, no precipitation and a 162” base. Over at Meadows, it’s mostly clear, 24 degrees with no new snow and a 133 inch base. Skibowl’s open tomorrow night for night skiing, and tickets are just $15. I still don’t see a powder day in the forecast, but there is a cool event at Meadows this weekend: the Candygrind rail jam benefits SOS outreach’s youth outdoors programs, so sign up and get ready to rip for a good cause.

The wind forecast today is light. Very light wind this morning gives way to light east winds this afternoon as an upper level low rotates off the coast. Tomorrow looks quite light. Next chance for west winds is Friday afternoon.

On the mountain bike front, it’s muddy in Post, muddy on Coyote and wildflowery on Syncline. So, if you’re going to ride, front side Hospital and Syncline are your choices today. Coming up this Saturday is Charley’s trail day in Post Canyon. Snacks, coffee and breakfast will be provided by Dog River Coffee, swag will be provided by Da Kine and other kind companies, and the hard work to finish the trail will be provided by you. Wish I could be there…

In other news, the Calypso orchids are out, and that’s good news for mushroom hunters who can tell the difference between a pinecone and dinner. Watch for ticks if you’re out in the woods. They’re out in force! I pulled two ticks off me yesterday. They are the most vile creatures on the planet. If you want to see me scream like a woman in a zombie flick, tell me there’s a tick on me. Yuck.

Boaters, the Hood’s at 4.1, the White Salmon’s at 4.1 feet, and the Little White’s at 740 cfs. And don’t forget, tomorrow night is the Kayak Shed’s weekly paddle and pint. Meet at the shop at 4:30 tomorrow afternoon…

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!

4/13 forecast

Good morning everyone!

Up on Hood this morning, it’s 31 degrees at Meadows, with no new snow, mostly cloudy skies, and a 135” base. Over at T-line, it’s mostly cloudy with no new and a 162” base. Skibowl is closed, but will be open Thursday night for night skiing and nachos. Did you know that their nacho recipe actually says, “make them as big as possible.” True story… I swear… I met the guy who wrote the recipe one day. He was riding Mt. Hood Express at Meadows. There’s some sort of irony in that, I suppose. It would have been more ironic had I met him eating nachos at Meadows. Anyway, he told me about the recipe, and I told him he’s my hero.

On the river today, expect enough wind out east to power a kite or a big sail. Morning gradients of .06 and .04 will pick up a bit later as a low rotates over Vancouver Island. We’ll see 16-19 westerlies this morning followed by 22-26 out east later on. Steadiest wind will be at Arlington and Roosevelt, but it’s not going to be super steady or reliable. Tomorrow looks quite light.

In mountain bike land, it’s muddy in Post, so wait until tomorrow if you can. Syncline is good, and Hospital is good, although a little influenced by cows. If you’re going to Hospital, please respect the Kreps’ wishes and do not take your dog, or you’ll get us all banned for the duration of cow season.

Coming up Saturday, we’ll have Charley Laventure trail day at Post, in memory of our friend Charley. 9am. Snacks provided by Dog River coffee.

If you’re a boater, the Hood’s at 4 feet, the White Salmon’s at 4.1 feet, and the Little White’s at 745 cfs.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
