Today’s forecast

The Clymb: free membership.
Access to super cheap gear including Trew, Zeal, Sierra Designs, and many more.

This week’s forecast is brought to you by Flow Yoga on 3rd Street in downtown Hood River. With all this rain, workout choices are getting limited, but not at Flow. You can choose from 25 fitness/training classes and 32 yoga/meditation classes. Starting November 6th, Flow is offering a 6-week snowsports series that targets your skiing and riding muscles (aka, your powder thighs). It’s going to be a solid workout, lots of fun, but most importantly, it’ll bring you into ski season ready for hours of faceshots (and way less time lying around sore the next day). As an added bonus, the instructor, Jessica is rad. If you’ve never been a Flow member, you can try out a month for just $49. One of you will win a free month membership at the end of this week!

Good morning!

This is it, everyone. This is your last day to enjoy evening light, such as it is with the low-level inversion and low-quality air this morning. Tonight we turn the clocks back.

There isn’t really much to talk about today, but I’d feel bad not posting something

So, your next chance for windsurfing or kiting is tomorrow in the desert, starting around midday. I think 20-25 is a reasonable, conservative call, but there’s a slight chance of gusty, cold upper twenties for short periods of time.

If you’re looking for new snow in the mountains, you’re going to have to wait until Sunday night. Most of tomorrow’s precipitation will fall as rain below 6-7,000ft. However, starting Sunday night and continuing into Tuesday, we’ll see a total of 18-24” above 4000 feet, with snow levels dropping to near 3000 feet on Tuesday.

The long-range forecast is all over the place. Check out Fox 12’s Mark Nelsen’s weather blog here. What that means is that I can’t tell you when the mountain will open. All I can do is cross my fingers. I suggest you join me.

In paddling world, the White Salmon is right around 2 feet right now. It, and the Hood, should come up quite a bit by tomorrow. I’m not sure we’ll see the Hood come over 4 feet, but you never know…

The mountain biking is pretty good right now. Stay off the lowest sections of Post Canyon, and you’re good to go!

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning!

The last few days were beautiful, and hopefully you had some time to enjoy the sunshine. I know I find myself panicking this time of year; when I see a warm, sunny day in the forecast, I rearrange my schedule and shift everything around to take advantage of the weather. That makes today a work day for me, a day to play catch-up after working on my tan on Mt. Hood yesterday. Ah yes, it’s toilet scrubbing time!

Hopefully you can do something more active today.

Most likely we won’t see much sun today. Less east gradient (it’s blowing about 15mph at Stevenson and Rooster) means more inversion clouds this morning. Above low clouds is a layer of frontal clouds, so even if the TTLitG burns off, we’ll still have cloudy skies. Fortunately for you – if you want to play outside, anyway – rainfall totals will be insignificant with this system… just sprinkles. So, you can still ride Post (it’s a little wet, but rideable) or your road bike today. Tomorrow looks relatively dry as well.

More rain marches in Saturday night, and by Sunday morning, it should be cool and showery in the Gorge with snow levels dropping to 3500-4000 feet by midday Sunday.

Next chance for wind is Sunday afternoon from Maryhill eastward to Port Kelley and Boardman. 25-30ish looks likely after the front passes mid-morning. Drive pre-emptively, as the wind will be gusty and will likely only last a few hours.

When I looked at the snow models yesterday, I was pretty optimistic about the chances of the ski areas opening within a couple of weeks, but the extended forecast is looking pretty weak (in terms of snowfall) now, so I’d say you still have plenty of time to shop for gear. Speaking of shopping, November 7th is your last chance to pick up a Fusion Pass or Meadows pass for $449. I’m not sure what is the last day to pick up a Skibowl Super Save pass (every day but Saturday) for $199.

Coming up this weekend, it’s the Ski Fever show in Portland, where you can mingle with a zillion P-town skiers and check out all sorts of ski/ride gear. More importantly, tonight is your chance to see Freeheel Life II at Dog River Coffee. It’s a tele movie, so hopefully you haven’t showered or shaved in the last week. Bring a bowl of granola, some roasted soy nuts or hemp seeds, and a block of tofu to share. 8pm, $6.

Have an awesome day today!
